NCC Spring 2021 NASSAU COMMUNITY COLLEGE

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone, I am a Liberal Arts student at NCC right now and interested in "Change of Program" to Nursing for Spring 2021. I have almost all the Pre-reqs done with 3.7 GPA. Only thing I worry about at this moment is the TEAS Exam. I did not take the TEAS yet and due to the COVID-19, there's no any test date available in my area. Do you guys know if they would consider my application without the TEAS? Please let me know if you know anything about this situation. Thank you

So they won’t accept me until I finish the courses, and get the results or they can accept me until I finish the courses

I can’t say if you’ll be accepted or not .. I don’t know the answer to that but the classes that you have in progress will not count towards your application

You can still apply. You don’t have to have all prerequisites done before applying. However, the more classes you have gives you more points therefore  more chances to get in. Good luck with your application ??

So can I start taking psy 206 and mat 102, and the rest of the prerequisites courses and then add them to the application or I have to wait and take them after they accept me in the program.

Following classes are prereqs for nursing:

  1. ENG 101 Composition I
  2. MAT 102 Introduction to Statistics
  3. PHI 110 Bioethics
  4. PSY 203 General Psychology I
  5. AHS 131 Anatomy and Physiology I
  6. PSY 216 Lifespan Human Development
  7. AHS 132 Anatomy and Physiology II
  8. AHS 202 Medical Microbiology
  9. BIO 131 Pathophysiology
  10. ENG 102 Composition II

You need to take them before applying to the Nursing program. Even though you don't have to have all 10 done before application, you have more chances of getting accepted into the program if you finish at least 6 classes. but remember, the more classes you have, the more chances to get in because Nassau uses a point system. For each class you took, you receive points according to the grade you get. (a grade of C or better.)

You also need to take the TEAS test and I guess you should get over 58.7 scores in each section. (Again, higher scores better). Plus if you're a Nassau resident, they will give you extra 5 points.

At the end whoever scores the most will be accepted into the program. To keep your chances of getting accepted into the program high, you should finish as many prereqs classes as possible with higher grades. (C or better).

I highly recommend you to attend Nursing Information Session. Professor Buckley will answer all of your questions and they will tell you what exactly they need and how the point system works.

Thank you so much I was so confused you helped me to understand so much.

Hi!
I was wondering if anyone here got accepted without taking any prereqs? I have only taken MAT 103 and 2 English courses that are on the rubric. Hoping I still have a chance with a high TEAS score.

Very low chance of being accepted with little pre-reqs done. You're better off getting more done and then applying to NCC

Hi, the chances are very low, unless you are straight from high school. One of my classmates got accepted without any prerequisites because he was straight out of high school. for "change of program" students and students transferring from other colleges, they expect to have at least A&P I and II done before applying. Now, that doesn't guarantee acceptance because they prioritize people with the most prerequisites done over less. Also, as a second-semester nursing student, I think it's good to have all the prerequisites done before nursing classes because it's very hard to take a nursing class together with other science classes. Specially NUR 101 is so time-consuming and you will be spending your time mostly on concept maps, skill checks, and so on. But don't let this discourage you if you are really good at time management. some people do it with full-time jobs and kids. I just wanted you to know what it really is. you can always apply and see if you get in. If not, reapply next semester!

Question Goalhunter, I have to take Western Civilization HUDV 3075 with 101. Will that be tough? Do you have healthcare background?  Thanks for responding.

Western Civic involves a lot of reading and research. You have to finish assigned readings, post 2-3 discussions, reply to other students' posts (min. 3), and an essay for each module. It's doable with Nur101 but I would recommend taking it in a Summer session. it's not required up until nur 204, so, you have time.

Yes, I do have healthcare background. I am a CNA for over 6 years now.

Thanks for the feedback! I have to take at least 9 credits per semester in order to receive funds from my union (holding my head). So I have to take it because it is the only one I can take at this time. I just finished Modern American History 3345 and that class was torture!!! I have a healthcare background so I hope that will help me with 101, that's was why I asked. So I could gauge your knowledge going in 101, which you definitely have versus those that are completely new to nursing so 101 would be more challenging.

Can you compare American History 3345 to Western Civ 3075? Just to prepare my brain.
