Navy Nurse 2024

Updated:   Published

Hello 🙂

I was recently accepted to the Navy Nurse Corps and I'm making this thread in hopes to connect with other nurses who are or already have been. I just found out my first duty station will be Camp Pendleton and my ODS start date is Oct 6th, 2024! I always enjoy reading people's experiences and conversations about this topic but have not come across any recent posts.

I'm currently a stem cell/cellular therapy RN with 1.5 year experience. I'm soo excited for this upcoming adventure.

I started the application process in December last year. I commissioned in August.

Specializes in Critical Care / Flight / Cath Lab.

Here's my timeline if it helps (2 years & 10 months):

Feb 2022: sent packet to recruiter

Aug 2022: new recruiter sends me a text saying 'hi, your recruiter retired.’

Nov 2022: "Do you still want to join?”

Jan 2023: Credentialing started

May 2023: We lost your packet.  Update it and send it back in please.

Oct 2023: Credentialing done.

May 2024: Background in the works

June 2024: Interviews x3

July 2024: MEPS

Aug 2024: sent to board

Sept 2024: PROREQ-Y

Oct 2024: request scroll FINSEL

Nov 2024: FINSEL had to be updated

Dec 2024: oath was returned, orders entered with detailer, swear in.

It's been a long road, stuff happens that's out of everyone's control, but it's well worth it.

Stick with the process.

What is PROREQ- Y? I had another interview last week after my packet was sent to the boards it was more of a skills checklist. Whats FINSEL? Thanks!

Specializes in Critical Care / Flight / Cath Lab.

Proreq-Y is being professionally recommended by the board.

FINSEL is final selection after your security clearance has completed and you're awaiting your commission and oath to be returned.

Sorry I just saw this.

if anyone has direct questions, my Signal App username is @Brandon.187

Thank you for all the help. I'm awaiting my initial recommendation still I sent my package in November. I had to do another security clearance since my one from enlisted active duty just expired. I'm hopeful to get to ODS in the June 8 rotation, I graduate FNP school June 2nd and want to finish if I can. Did you get an ODS date yet? Where is your first duty station?

Hi,

currently, meeting with the recruiter for paperwork any advice on MEPS and how to prepare or what is like? Also how long was this process?

Just do everything they tell you. If you have never been, it's a long day so bring something to do. Don't hide anything medical (they can see civilian records now they didn't use to be able to). My entire process from start to when I got my approval was 2 years. Just stay on top of everything and it can be a lot shorter.

My process took about 1 year from initial meeting with recruiter to signing the commissioning paperwork. MEPS was simple, just wear appropriate undergarments (and socks!) and be honest. MEPS took me about 5 hours, not too terrible I was out of the building by lunch time.

Wow years :/ my recruiter told me about 8 months but I guess a year isn't long from 8 months. Thanks for the info! Also did any of you get a sign on bonus if so was that given all at once or disbursed in increments? Well Thursday will be my first time meeting with the recruiter and doing paperwork.

Specializes in New Nurse, USN Nurse Corps Applicant.

@nursegirl11 Congratulations on getting the process started, hopefully ill be doing the same soon. I was told for the reserves there is 30k sign on bonus Im not sure what they are offering active duty. I'm not an officer yet, but when I enlisted I was given 10k sign on bonus. They gave me 5k after I completed basic and A and C school and then they gave out the rest on my anniversary date of when I enlisted throughout my 6 year contract. It could be different now, I joined in 2014 so if anyone has different information please let me know.
