Navy Nurse 2024

Updated:   Published

Hello 🙂

I was recently accepted to the Navy Nurse Corps and I'm making this thread in hopes to connect with other nurses who are or already have been. I just found out my first duty station will be Camp Pendleton and my ODS start date is Oct 6th, 2024! I always enjoy reading people's experiences and conversations about this topic but have not come across any recent posts.

I'm currently a stem cell/cellular therapy RN with 1.5 year experience. I'm soo excited for this upcoming adventure.

Has anyone had an issue getting their CAC card after commissioning?   Apparently I'm nowhere in the DEERS system or NSIPS yet.  I'm getting nervous because I need to make sure my spouse is taken care of while I'm at ODS in the event of a medical emergency or needing base access.

Unfortunately, this was an issue for many. Maybe reach out to your recruiter about this to see if you can be sponsored earlier somehow...but I didn't receive my CAC until week 4 or 5 of ODS even though I commissioned 5 months before I went to ODS. Their office is often overwhelmed and I understand many people complained about this. I also tried to get it earlier but was unable to.
The DEERS situation was also the same. Just be sure to have all of the paperwork handy with you and there will be briefs and plenty of forms to fill out at ODS but I also knew of people that weren't able to get their significant others registered in DEERS until late in the process....

Possibly, leave a copy of your orders and marriage cert with your s/o in the case of emergency? I don't have a real solution.

Wow.  How is this an issue with all the advancements in technology.  It should be a nearly automated process by this point.  Seems very inefficient as if one system doesn't talk to the other.  Thanks for the insight though.

You can file claims retroactively with tricare.  They will back date your coverage (once established) to the date your orders start for active duty.  It's very commonly done unfortunately.

MEPS was an experience for sure got that done and now we wait 😪 recruiter foresees this going until next year.

Hello all

I was wondering if anyone else had an issue getting their NWU's ? Seems they are on back order.

Hey, all! Any idea what the timeline is for credentialing? My recruiter just says that things have been backed up

I've done interviews, MEPS, paperwork (essay, resume, recommendations). I just hate the wait!

I'm hoping it doesn't take too long. I'm an ICU RN with an entry-MSN and 2.5 years of experience. CCRN and all that jazz.

They told me the same thing but my credentialing was very fast. Like less than 3 weeks but can't remember the specific timeline. Even my recruiter was surprised.
