Navy Nurse 2024

Updated:   Published

Hello 🙂

I was recently accepted to the Navy Nurse Corps and I'm making this thread in hopes to connect with other nurses who are or already have been. I just found out my first duty station will be Camp Pendleton and my ODS start date is Oct 6th, 2024! I always enjoy reading people's experiences and conversations about this topic but have not come across any recent posts.

I'm currently a stem cell/cellular therapy RN with 1.5 year experience. I'm soo excited for this upcoming adventure.

I suspect you're not genuinely not interested in hearing me or learning, just shooting the messenger. It's not worthwhile giving you more detail.  I also suspect im not the first person in your life to tell you this. Again the military is not your place.

And what did you say to even remotely help? Say the military is not for me? That's fine. I'd rather hear from someone who's willing to help give some insight as to what expect. I'd rather listen to those around me who say I should consider the nurse corps. Regardless, you're not even in the navy nurse corps, so I suspect that you're not even familiar with it. Have a great day!

I am helping you out.  I'm saving you a year applying.  I'm saving you from being unhappy for 3 years serving.   I'm hopefully saving myself from having to supervise you in a deployed location down the road.

There's nothing more to discuss. You've made your OPINION clear. Fortunately, the Navy has the final say. Have a great day.

This is so exciting!! Congratulations! I just applied for the August board and have no idea what the board is looking for. I'm hopeful for selection, but I already have ideas about how to improve my packet if I am not. May I privately DM you to ask you more questions about the process?

Specializes in Emergency, Cath lab, quality.

Hi Darianne,
You can DM me. I'd be happy to answer any questions about the process so far! ☺️

Can anybody share possible ICU duty locations for nurses besides (San Diego, Walter Reed, and Porthsmouth)thanks!

Rota, Guam, Pendleton, Okinawa, Lejeune. Now the real question is, are you looking for true "ICU" experience?

Not really, I just want to serve. Im coming in as more than 10 yrs ICU experience, so any acuity ICU would be fine. I just want to know the possible navy hospitals with ICU billets. I was hoping one of the florida bases have ICU.. Thanks for the response

There may be more that I am not aware of.

Jacksonville has an ICU. I don't think Pensacola even has an ER. It's mostly ambulatory surgery.

Keep in mind that the ongoing DHA absorption of the non-deployed military heath system will eventually have more Navy at Air Force and Army hospitals.  I have no clue what the timeframe for this transition will be.  There is a small ICU at Eglin AFB near Destin.
