Hello all! I have been avidly following previous topics about the NCP program and I wanted to start one for those of us who have recently submitted a kit for the NCP program for FY2015. I'm in the Chicago area and my kit is currently being combed over by a processor then will be shipped out for the boards- which aren't convening until Novemeber (according to my recruiter), since they wanted to have more applicants. Hopefully this will be an area to calm nerves and answer questions. Good luck to all who apply, or are thinking of applying!
However openings may be quite different in the next 2 years. When the bulk of the 'baby boomers' retire there will be openings to fill. So I think its more of a timing thing.
The economy has been responsible for baby boomers NOT retiring. They can't afford to retire! But I think things are getting a bit better in the nursing job market than they were just a couple of years ago. Just a smidge. :) Best of luck to you in your endeavors! Trauma is interesting for sure. I've been doing nothing but for a while.
Hello Everyone,
It's nice to have these forums to where we can all communicate our experiences with the process. I am at the very beginning of the process. I wanted to know if anyone could tell me a recruiter they know of that I can start the process with here in the San Diego area? I live about 45 minutes to an hour away.I was given one contact info from a co-worker who recently went back into the Navy as a Chaplain. I have heard from that recruiter once and haven't gotten any response since. Any insight and information would be very much appreciated. Thank you.
Freckles&Glasses- did your recruiter have you apply this go around? I thought it was for only for graduates of 2015. When I first started gathering info on NCP I heard there were two different scholarships- 2 yr and 1 yr. But then I if graduate in May 2015, that makes me wonder if they will make me a 1 yr scholarship and I wouldn't sign until May 2014...any ideas or clarification? Of course this is all assuming I get in :/
TraumaRNHopeful -Yes, you are correct in that there are two types of scholarships, 1 yr and 2 yr. If you graduate in May 2015, i assume it's the 1 yr, but I am assuming as well. Definitely talk with recruiter to clarify. Since I am graduating in 2016, I am trying for the 2 yr. Have you submitted your app or are you now waiting for a results?
kaylab13- OMG I feel the SAME way. I can only see myself in the future as a naval member not a civilian. I am so glad to here that you are so passionate. I get emotional when I tell my parents how bad I want to become part of the navy. Rock on girl!![/quote']I'm glad that you're so passionate also! I wish you the best! I've always wanted to give back to military servicemembers in some way. Navy nursing, I think, is a calling!

I want this more than I've ever wanted anything, bc it just feels right. I've thought about even trying for OCS and transitioning in to nursing since I'll already have my BSN. Gah! I just want to get in and sign!!!

Right on! I'm 20.
That's great that you found another passion! Trauma nursing would be very interesting. You'd likely see something different each time you work. Nursing is such a diverse profession. I'm still trying to figure out which specialty is the best fit for me, but critical care is definitely of interest to me.
The job market is rough for new grads right now. I live in California, and the market is completely saturated with new grads.
