Navy NCP FY2015 Applicants

Hello all! I have been avidly following previous topics about the NCP program and I wanted to start one for those of us who have recently submitted a kit for the NCP program for FY2015. I'm in the Chicago area and my kit is currently being combed over by a processor then will be shipped out for the boards- which aren't convening until Novemeber (according to my recruiter), since they wanted to have more applicants. Hopefully this will be an area to calm nerves and answer questions. Good luck to all who apply, or are thinking of applying!

Anyone hear from their recruiter or processor how many NCP spots they have for this FY?

My recruiter was not exactly sure of the number but she estimated around 65???? Has anyone else heard numbers similar to this?

I heard 60, so it's somewhere in that range. I hope we all get good news soon!

Talked to my processor and he said there are 13 kits they are going over right now that are being considered. Not sure if that means there were more that were thrown out before the boards just becuase they didn't reach basic requirements, or if literally there were only 13 applications sent in. I assume there were some thrown out. I think he said the board actually convenes on Nov 8. I asked about how many spots there were to fill and he said there hasn't been an official decision just because of the gov shutdown. Last yr there were around 50, so he is assuming 50-60. We are so close to finding out!!!

Thank you for the update! I'm glad there's a tentative date set for when the board will convene. Not many applications were submitted initially. Is that the number of applications they're trying to push through to the board, or the number of applications already at the board? When I spoke to my recruiter last, he mentioned that the processers were still combing through applications.

I think they are seriously considering the 13. As in, there may have been others submitted but they have been thrown out since they didn't make it through processing. That is my understanding but I could be wrong.

I have my last phone interview today and then my kit will be sent off!! Yippeeee!!! I wish we can just find out immediately...unfortunately my recruiter said its random and can vary when we here results

Last interview done!!!!!! Havnt heard much from processor/recruiter so I hope thats a good sign I have everything I need! Fingers crossed for all of is :)

How were your interviews? Mine were a bit weird...the first was with a Cpt who has been a nurse for 30 some odd years. She was more interested in telling me about the program, and not really in interviewing me to see if I was qualified. The second was on the fly. The original interviewer was stuck in a meeting so my recruiter found someone who found someone (haha) to interview me. He was a medic corpsman starting out and had been in the Navy for 15-20 years. He opened with telling me there was a large possibility I could be deployed and die. Womp womp. Then he drilled in to me how it could affect my family with moving around and such. I made it clear I had thought about EVERY angle and how I would deal with it and how my family would. That was about as much "convincing I wanted it" that I did. I would be very interested to see what kind of recommendation I got from either of the interviewers, just because they seemed kind of odd (the interviews, not the interviewers themselves)

My first interview was with a retired male nurse who is now working as a civilian midwife. He gave me A TON of "what if" scenarios which i feel confident I answered appropriately (but I never prepped for the kinds of questions lol). He had a sense of humor so it made the interview less tense. My second interviewer was a navy CDR internal medicine physician (male as well) and I think for like half the interview he was telling me about naval life, a lot of the cons (pros too lol). He told me about cruelty and unfairness in seniority, but they are trying to change that. He then said that a lot of nursed leave the navy when they get older because when your young you work in the field, patient contact/clinical settings, but as you get higher ranks and get older, your will take on more administrative tasks. From the very beginning, he warned me that the navy sometimes is a huge disappointment to people, but I think he wanted to tell me this to ensure i have thought about every scenario in the navy and the commitment i would take. It was interesting how both interviewers went on forever about sexual harassment and the navy's actions to greatly reduce the incidences. Did they bring this topic up???? Luckily i go to an all women's college, so I tied this in nicely with this lol. My second interviewer asked me classic interview questions like give me 10 adjectives, tell me about a tough life situation and how you handled it, why should the navy have you, etc etc. I felt like i rambled more on my second interview :/ **both were over phone. Overall though, i think both were positive experiences.

last note, I feel like I got my main points across and exemplified my readiness to serve. Oh, also, my first interviewer did ask me about woking in combat zone or in cultures where women are extremely disadvantaged...

oh and I made it a point that i fortunately have a great family/friend support system....but I did too find it strange that half the interview was not an interview at all lol but rather an info sesh about the navy

Well yours sound more interview-like than mine were. I think its funny how both guys went on and on about sexual harassment. If the interviews spoke a lot about whether or not we are getting in, I'm not getting in..womp womp. Hopefully they pay attention to the rest of the kit and personal statement and such too.
