NAU Nursing Fall 2016

Published

I thought I would start this blog for the NAU spring 2016 nursing program application cycle!

I take the Kaplan exam on March 11th and the application is due during spring break. (March 15th)

Just want to know who else is out there apply this cycle :)

Yeah! (: I know! Hopefully we will find out in the next couple of weeks.

And AIP is the American Indian Program so you work mostly on the reservation!

The adviser I speak with said letters and emails will not be going out until around the last week of April. :( oh, how cool! I didn't know NAU offered such a program, that's awesome :)

Oh wow! Well... All we can do is stay positive!

Yeah, it's not as known as the other three programs but it's less competitive!

Yes, positivity is key :) how did you do on the science portion?

:) agreed

I got a 90%!!

How about you?

Wow, GOOD JOB! I got a 75% :)

Yeah! That's still really good! :D

I took 202 last semester so I studied my butt off, and I did the worst on the writing section.. I got a 67% I didn't practice the right things for that section! But all the other sections I scored over a 90%

Well, good job! I'm sure you will get in :)

I applied for admission to the Tucson campus for the Fall. I am feeling really anxious about it, my GPA isn't awesome (about a 3.7) and although my overall score was okay (84) on the Kaplan I barely earned a 60 on the science portion. Also, I made an appointment to turn in my application and I WAS LATE. I am seriously never late for anything, and I always take responsibility for my mistakes but there were a lot of things working against me that morning. I just hope I didn't make too horrible of an impression. I saw that the things considered for acceptance were the GPA, Kaplan and credits from NAU. I think the last will help me a bit, depending on how strongly it effects the entrance score. My first degree is from NAU, but again I don't know the weights of each requirement. Anyone else here applying for Tucson admission?

Teacher17,

I just took a class with the nursing advisor Gregg Schneider.

He explained to us how everything was weighted and scored when they go over the applications.

1) First, they look at just your PREREQUISITES GPA (not overall college GPA)..They base it off of a point system:

3.0-3.19=1 point

3.2-3.39=2 points

3.4-3.59=3 points

3.6-3.79=4 points

3.8-4.0=5 points

2) Next they look at your KAPLAN Scores.. and they weigh the points based on the averages for the application cycle..

(Usually anything over a 90 gets you 5 points, but it depends on the cycle)

I was told that you have to at least score a 65%-70% on the science portion to be considered.

(But again, it depends what the average test sores were for your application cohort)

3) They look at how many of the prerequisite classes that you have in progress or completed.

For example.. if you apply with all of the prerequisites complete you get the full points for that section which is 2 points I believe.

4) These are kind of like "bonus points":

- If you are an NAU student with +30 credits you get an extra point +1

- If you have any 60 college credits completed with a 3.0 GPA or higher then you get an extra point too +1

SO... overall the applications are weighed out of 14 points,

but remember it always varies with each application cycle on what scores make it in :)

This is so helpful, thank you so much! Did you apply? If so, how did you do? :)

I did apply :)

I applied to the Flagstaff campus program and the American Indian Program!

I got an 84% on the Kaplan, 90% in science, but my prereq GPA is a 3.43..

So hopefully the odds are in my favor!
