NAU BSN applications?

U.S.A. Arizona

Published

Hi. I'm new to this forum. I'm applying to Northern Arizona University Accelerated BSN program for this summer. I'm just curious to see if anyone else is also, or if anyone has any tips, words of wisdom, etc., about NAU. Thanks!

has anyone spoken with the advising center at NAU about classes, or sent in materials for scholarships??

Nah, I emailed them yesterday, but have not yet heard back. I have been too tired to even look at the scholarship material. Is it due mid March??? I need to get of my orifice and do it!

northernmel...why don't you call? Tell them you heard the letters went out but since you live so far away, you can't bear to wait that long? Couldn't hurt...they've already sent the letters! I'd be dying, knowing that my letter was floating around in snail mail space while everyone else was planning ahead:bugeyes:. Good luck some more!!!

As far as I was told, scholarship deadline was last night at five. It didn't make any sense to me, so I called and spoke with the front desk woman and that was when she told me I was accepted. She said that the deadline was actually today, 3/2, but the accelerated students had a little bit longer to put in materials since we were just getting letters. I asked her if I got it to her in a little over a week after last Thursday, she was kind of hesitant initially, but told me that as long as I got them in as soon as possible, there should be no problem. The only issue is that they start reviewing the materials immediately because they really don't have too much time to award all the funds by May. At least that is what I gathered from the conversations I had.

So, get on it lady!

I printed out the 90 page BSN handbook today- wow is there a lot of information! I'm excited though! How strange though, that we will need a Palm t/x with RN software......I'm mildly frightened as I am a mac gal..

NorthernMel- I agree! Give them a call! You never know, and I certainly don't think it would hurt! Good luck with yours and let us know when you get it-you sure sound like you had an awesome application!

Just a quick note on your palm requirement, because I'm also a Mac gal. I have a Palm Centro which works great with my Mac (I mean, it's no iPhone, but AT&T doesn't have great service up here in the mountains anyway). But there's a third party program called "The Missing Sync" that makes it as seamless as it can be to use Palm OS with Macs. It allows you to use your contacts and iCal.

Hey, I finally received word--I'm IN!!! I found out on Wednesday, right before leaving on a road trip. I'm on a mini book tour in Anchorage, helping my boyfriend promote an anthology he put together. I am so excited and now that I know I've been accepted, this big life change seems more like a reality.

I already mailed off the scholarship applications because I thought the deadline was March1. Plus I've been trying to get all the paperwork done since I'll be on the road again for the next two weeks. I was a little confused about some of the deadlines for sending in documents such as the fingerprint clearance. They stated two different deadline dates in the packet?

Jac20, to answer your question about housing, we have found a place. Fortunately, we have an acquaintance in Flagstaff who needs a couple to occupy her house for the next year or so. A few years back, while my sister was a student, she lived in one of those condo/housing developments near campus. I think it was called the Pines. She said they have good deals on rent during summer.

I'm glad to hear that we all had good news to share on this thread!

Congrats!!!! Enjoy your trip and I guess we'll all be classmates in 2 months!

oh, just wanted to add that y'all are crazy if you think you're going to do accelerated program and commute from phoenix. the program MOVES...and I mean MOVES!!!! You'll be all over Arizona (Yuma, etc) on random days.

Just my $0.02, for what it's worth. It's stressful enough to be in Nursing School without trying to drive back and forth on various days. You may want to rethink it.

Hey lifesacomedy, well, it's a year later and I just wanted to update you and letcha know that I have suscessfully completed almost a whole year in the program, all the while commuting from Phoenix to Flag!!! :yeah:On top of that, my grades are stellar and in about 2 weeks, I'm pretty much done with the commuting! I know that you thought it would be near impossible, but I got through it just fine and it honestly hasn't been that bad. While commuting isn't ideal, it was the best decision I could have made because I'm graduating much sooner than I would have with any other option I had here in Phoenix.

I'm actually kinda surprised that more people don't attempt it...I keep hearing from Phoenix people waiting for MCC who already have bachelors, paying an arm and a leg for one of the private universities, or repeatedly trying for ASU with no luck. Eventhough I couldn't move to Flagstaff, I'm glad that I considered them an option because it all worked out so well!

Well, just wanted to let you know that it has worked out, thanks for the advise last year! Gosh...time has flown:nurse:. Have you graduated yet???

That is wonderful! I'm glad it is working out well! I graduate in December, so I'm finishing up the last of the last right now, getting ready to take my Exit HESI, and then looking forward to Capstone next semester.

Again, I wasn't trying to be a downer, I just wanted to make sure you were setting yourself up for success, but it sounds like you knew what you were capable of and went for it! Best of luck in the rest of your program! And congrats on completing the first year! Almost there!

Oh, how funny...so we're in Peds and 350 together, as well as graduating together. What 350 clinical group are you in? We're almost done with the semester, yay:up: You traditional guys take the Hesi in a week or so, right? We don't take ours until this summer...hope it goes well, good luck!

And no no, I never took it as you beng a downer, just knew that you were offering advise to seriously look at what I was doing. Honestly, the idea was crazy to me too, but I was desperate to just get on with my life and didn't want to be stuck in the valley waiting and waiting. It all turned out well, though. Can't wait till December!

of course! we are in class together then...who knew! i'm the one who is becoming more pregnant by the day. :0) and I had black-bishop for 350 this semester and was doing hospice.

we take our hesi on monday. i'm taking the weekend, going to phoenix, and plan to lay by my friend's pool, belly up to the sun with a hesi study guide to shield my eyes (I hear they're good for napping under) ;0) . get out of this late snow!
