Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all,

I am applying to the BSN program at national this month & wanted to start a feed to see if there's anyone else out there applying/preparing for TEAS, etc!

pre-orientation is may 24, 8:30-12:30

Orientation is june 21, 8:30-12:30

I was wondering this same question. it says start term is July 7th but that is a saturday?

I was wondering this same question. it says start term is July 7th but that is a saturday?

It might. We have class on Saturday and Sunday all the time. Welcome to nursing school

There are two GPA criteria:

1. Your cumulative gpa has to be either 78 or 80 minimum depending on your entry (generic or post bachelor have different minimums) to even be able to apply to the nursing program.

2. Once you are eligable to apply to the program, Your pre-nursing GPA that you listed above is your admission GPA. This is what determines your acceptance/denial amongst the other criteria.

The process works like this:

1. Attend a pre nursing orientation (obligatory!!! Must do this first!)

2. Apply to the program (when you have all of the requirements done: cum.gpa 80, classes finished, pre nursing orientation, pay your classes etc.) and wait for a week for your TEAS and ESSAY date via email.

3. Take the TEAS and essay, they will then tell you 4-6 weeks if you are accepted/denied based on those three criteria; pre-nursing gpa, teas, and essay.

At anytime you can take a TEAS elsewhere and keep the best score for your application. Essay must be done at National. Good luck

Can you please tell me if National University also requires a CNA license prior to apply like some of local junior colleges do?

I'm hoping to apply next year. I've read this entire thread and it's been EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks SO much!

Also, does anyone know the dates for National University's pre-nursing orientations?

Hey y'all! I am cohort 56 and am gearing up to start in October! I was wondering if there is anything you could tell me about the critical thinking test that we take during preorientation? Not specifics, but just what it is exactly- I can't find any information about it on ati's website. Also, any wisdom that you could pass on about things you wish you had known before starting, things we should pick up to help get started, or what to expect when we finally get started would be so GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance!

1. Don't stress the critical thinking test; it's just a general assessment

2. Don't waste your money on books. Buy the med surge and rent health assessments. Everything else use quizlets for studying for the exams.

3. This program is teach yourself basically. You will gain very little from the lectures, except for pharm: great class, great instructor.

4.clinicals and labs are pass fail, THE GRADES DONT MATTER. Focus on your lecture classes for GPA.

5. Don't, I repeat, DONT eat at the campus cafe. Blahgh terrible

6. Don't read into the rubrics or syllabus assignments too much. So many ppl ask the same questions over and over. Have faith in your own comprehension abilities or you will stress yourself out listening to the concerns of nervous students that second guess themselves.

7. Relax, you got in. It's not as hard as you think in this program. It's not med-school; even though the faculty acts like it is.

8. Love in the moment, you are only a nursing student once. Have fun and try to enjoy it; make friends with everybody. Help each other out, it's not a competition.

9. Get a NUSNA mentor (join NUSNA). They will hook you up! They've been through these classes already so take advantage of your mentor's experience

Hope that helps, sorry if the format is sloppy, I typed this on my phone.

That is such great advice! I'm stressing out for sure! You say don't buy the books, and that the lectures (except pharm) are useless for information? Where do I learn things? Haha

I know sounds crazy right? Everything is power point. The teachers go on and on about things that aren't even in the exam. Look up the class numbers on quizlets and all the info is there. You will rely on prerequisite knowledge at the beginning. It's review. I have not purchased a book yet and I have straight A's. I'm not bragging, just tying to help you save some money, this program is expensive and some of the classes require 5 books. Buy a good care plan book and a pocket medical book. Inbox me and I can be more specific

This is going to sound stupid but I have no idea how to inbox on here... haha

Click my name, click send pm.

I'll just type it here. It's not secret info lol

If you have a budget for it, buy yourself the best Littman stethoscope you can afford. Consider this an investment and a tool you will be using for the rest of your career! I have a case for mine too. You have to take accurate blood pressure and understand breath sounds, a good stethoscope will teach you how to do this!

Good luck, enjoy nursing school.
