National University SD Cohort 39

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello, Im creating a thread for those who are applying to National University SD cohort 39 starting july 2014. I figured we can all post our experience through this process of applying.

Hello @kris1022,

I think you should be fine with your scores. Dont worry about the teas too much ... but do study and focus on your weak areas you feel you could work on. I got in for cohort 38 with a 3.75, all attempt points, 80.7 on the teas, and 3/5 on the essay. GOOD LUCk to everyone!

I spoke to someone in the nursing dept and he said we should have results in 3 week :nailbiting: That means we should know by middle to end of February!!!!! He said this cohort is going a lot faster than the others because of the new curriculum rolling out this week. Good luck to all!!!!

@ kris1022 Not at all. My prompt was how will I manage my time to be successful in school

it's an hour and require 2 pages long, double space, times new roman, font 12

It sounds like a lot, but trust me that's plenty of time.

How do you estimate your overall % with the teas result, essay and your GPA?

Blansh73

if you don't mind sharing, what was you essay topic?

I did kriss1022. See my response above

Here is how you calculate your score.

Total 100points possible: # Attempts - 20 points, GPA- 30 points, TEAS- 30 points, Essay- 20 points

Number of attempts to achieve C or higher in each pre-requisite(A&P1, A&P1 lab, A&P2, A&P2 lab, Micro, Micro lab and Bio Statsfor a total of 21 points possible) 1 attempt is 3 points, 2 is 2 points, 3 is 1point, 4 or more is 0 points = Your points divided by 21 points and multipliedby 20

GPA = Your pre-requisite GPA divided by 4.0 mulitplied by 30

TEAS = Your TEAS score divided by 100 multiplied by 30. Note that yourfirst attempt with NU is free, so even if you have already taken it you mightwant to take it again as, iirc, they will take the highest of your scores.

Proctored essay is written the day of the TEAS. If you have alreadytaken the TEAS and do not wish to retake it, they will schedule you to take itlater on the same day others are taking the TEAS. The essay is graded out of 5points each by two staff members. At the information session they stated thatthe essay is graded on a holistic scale (how well did you answer the question, grammar, spelling, etc.). I'm not sure they automatically share your essayscore with you, but I remember them saying that you could request your pointsworksheet after the fact.

I will also be taking it on Friday. What did you think of it ? Was there a lot of chem? I was going to take it before my actual date at National but they told me I could only take it once every 60 days (doesn't matter if its w/ National or another site) . I currently have a 4.0 and all attempt points .. I guess to match what was accepted cohort 38 I would need to score a 85% on TEAS and 2/5 on the essay. I've heard there are 4 versions given. A friend of mine said he had maybe 3 or questions on chem and no earth science but another said she has a good amount of chem and a few earth science questions. I don't see how that is fair. I wish it was one version to be fair to all.

It didn't seem too bad when I was taking it, I think I should've spent more time reading and understanding the questions. I feel like the science was all over the place and there was not a lot of human body anatomy and mine had a lot of chem which I'm not good at :( but they say every test is different so I don't know. I did ran out of time on the math, I think I was just too nervous.

Hopefully I do better on Friday, good luck :)

Good luck to you as well!!! hopefully we both don't get much chem questions. I am horrible as well.

Hi all! I have also applied for cohort 39 starting July 2014. Is this thread for ABSN, generic BSN, or both? Best of luck to everyone!!!

Hi Kris1022,

In my experience, the TEAS V was not necessarily an incredibly difficult exam; however, it requires a lot of critical thinking. I'm not sure if you've purchased any resources to prepare for the TEAS, but I found the ATI Study Manual and online practice tests to be extremely helpful. I also used McGraw Hill's 5 TEAS Practice Tests. I felt that every question I encountered on the TEAS was covered in some shape or form by the ATI manual. Some of the subjects required a little more outside studying and research, but at least the topics were covered in the manual and provided a nice outline of what I should review.

Don't fret too much! Read the questions carefully and understand what is really being asked. Don't make assumptions as to what you think the question is asking; take your time and really read it. In my opinion, this test is just as much about critical thinking as it is about your knowledge on the subjects. I found that I could usually eliminate one or two of the answers easily. After that, try to think of why the answer that you're choosing is the right answer. If you can think critically and defend your answers, you'll do great. Be confident! You've come this far! Best of luck!!!

Thanks so much for the tips. I am nervous. If you don't mind sharing, what was your score and essay topic?

I applied to the generic BSN. You?

Kris1022,

Just be confident in your abilities- you'll do great! I scored a 90%, which is higher than what I scored on all the practice tests (I constantly scored between 80-86%). As far as the essay, my topic was similar to what some people previously posted. I googled resources for college entrance essays, and that helped me. Just brainstorm and get ideas for a few different topics so that you won't have to ponder too long during the essay. I wouldn't recommend writing a draft or over-thinking it too much, because you really want to answer the question that the prompt is asking you. Good luck!!!
