Hello, Im creating a thread for those who are applying to National University SD cohort 39 starting july 2014. I figured we can all post our experience through this process of applying.

Anatomy, Physio and Mico are counted as 2 classes each(one is lecture and one is lab). So, if you got an "A" in Anatomy it would count for two "A's". You should have a total of 7 grades counting Biomedical Statistics. Also, if you have +'s or -'s, it will affect your GPA.See below:
Grade Points Awarded
A = 4.0
A- = 3.7
B+ = 3.3
B = 3.0
B- = 2.7
C+ = 2.3
C = 2.0
C- = 1.7
D+ = 1.3
D = 1.0
D- = 0.7
F = 0.0
Hello, everyone!The best way to contact JJ is to leave him a voicemail!
After I left him a voicemail, he emailed me right away:yes:
I am an alternate for cohort 38 and received my breakdown score.
Does anyone know how to calculate your science GPA?
I spoke with JJ and he said that I received 24.8906.
When I calculated my GPA, I somehow got 25.6875.
I got As in Anatomy and Physio, A- in BioStat and C in Microbio.
(4+4+3.7+2)/4/4*30=25.6875
If anyone can help me with it, I appreciate it:roflmao:
Good luck everyone:yes:
Hi applepeach! So glad I found this board! I am an alternate for cohort 38 as well. When you say that the nursing department gave you your breakdown score, do you mean that they gave you your point total? I have asked them a few times and they always tell me that they don't release the scores for alternates until orientation day. It's killing me! Thank god we only have a couple weeks of waiting to go...
As for your gpa - it's gpa divided by 4.0, then multiply by 30. If you got A's in both of your A&P classes (lectures AND labs), an A- in Biostats, and a C in the Microbiology lecture AND lab, then your gpa would be 3.406. I just use one of the gpa calculators online - they come in handy! The points should total out to 25.545. I wonder why he came up with a lower total - that's weird! Are you including your grades for the labs?
Have you been in touch with the lady handling the alternates? Did she ask you to sign up for a gmail email account? She wouldn't give me info on my scores, just said that if we get a seat on orientation day we'd have a month to complete all of the requirements (cpr, insurance, fees, etc..), and that acceptance depends on where we are on the alternate list (according to score). I've been torturing myself trying to figure out my point total! I think I must have gotten a 4 on the essay, which would give me 83.9475 points. If I got a 3 then I think my score would have been too low to be chosen as an alternate. I read on the other board that someone who got accepted had a point total of 84.3 (something like that). So I'm thinking that the alternates must have missed the mark by a small margin. Have you figured out what your point total would be if you include essay scores?
I wish you the best of luck and I hope we get in! I'm trying to stay as optimistic as possible. By the way - about the new classes...the guy from the nursing department told me that alternates don't have to complete the new pre-req's if we don't get in and choose to reapply. He said that there's a "transition program" in place, however, it would be wise to start completing them now in case we don't get in a second time. Of course, that's if you're willing to reapply at National and spend more money on all of those classes. I'm a little annoyed that I spent thousands of dollars taking the Spanish/ILR classes that won't count anymore!
I hope we both get a spot in March! Good luck! :)
Hi AA I sent an email to the genreric nursing email on Thursday 1/30 and received a response from JJ on Tuesday 2/4 not a generic email. I was trying to see if they would give me my essay score but he didnt. But he did say we would know in the next two weeks. So next week we should know.

Hi WS!
I totally agree with your username, lol. I'm an alternate for cohort 38. I was bugging them for my essay score as well . . . but it looks like they will only tell you if you get accepted or denied - alternates don't get their essay score until orientation day. It looks like your cohort is moving along a LOT faster than 38. I applied last October, took the teas in November, and got my notification right before the application deadline for your cohort. I hope you hear from them soon - with an acceptance offer!! :)
Meanwhile if we are supposed to have the new curriculum on the 17th, then do you suppose we will know of our status before hand?
Hi Ann Apple,
This would make total sense!! In a way, you would think it would be mandatory that they let us know by the 17th so we can prepare for more classes (IF we aren't accepted for cohort 39). I can see a lot of people getting upset if they take their time informing us since we could be utilizing our time and money by taking the new courses now instead of sitting around for 2 months just waiting to hear back. Thats 2 months of waiting when it could be 2 classes knocked out of the way (if we knew before March classes start!).

The email I received was from JJ. I had emailed the nursing department at the generic email to see if they could tell me what my essay score was and JJ emailed back saying we would know whether we got in or not within two weeks. So I hope what he said in the email is true as well. I was trying to post his email but it would not work with all the graphics in the email signature for some reason.
