Hello everyone!

My name is Dusty, and I'm starting this topic because I haven't seen any conversations started for Cohort 60 starting October 10, 2019. If I missed a thread already made, please let me know so I can hop over to that one. If not, then please introduce yourself so we can all get to know and help each other out! Look forward to meeting you all :)

I'm also applying to Cohort 60. Right now I'm reviewing my lecture notes and will be taking the TEAS again in a couple of weeks. My first score was 92.5% but I think I know what I did wrong so hopefully I can improve it.
I think it's great we can bounce ideas off each other. Hopefully we can all get through this!
92.5% is a fantastic TEAS score. How is your writing? It takes a lot of work to get a better score than that. I've heard of people practicing the essay more since that can be a deal breaker.
Here's the latest from the Nursing forum that happened today: Cohort 60 will be the last one where an essay is included in the acceptance. Starting C61, the math/science GPA and TEAS will still remain, but the top 80 applicants(based on gpa/teas) will be brought in for a face-to-face interview, of which 50 will be selected. Also, TEAS will no longer be admin'd at National. Avg TEAS score that got in to C59 was 87.6%.

Hi Elif! We should get an email with a test date/location 1 week from the deadline. The test should be around 3 weeks after that

This is my thinking as well. I'm going to focus on the writing/essay portion of the admission process once I've retaken the TEAS. I'm approaching this with the viewpoint that I already have 92.5% of the possible TEAS points- another couple of percentage points isn't going to really impact my score.
Over the last week or so I've started to shift my focus over to the essay. Part of my preparation has been to randomly pick a prompt and generate a mental bullet point of how the essay would flow. I'll eventually start writing (or rough drafting) them but for now this has been really helpful.
I've spoken with other classmates and some are handling it differently as they're solely focused on their TEAS score. I think every portion of the admission process is vital and needs the proper attention. You definitely don't want to neglect the essay in lieu of something else.
Hey everyone! I also applied for cohort 60! Super cool to get in touch with others in the same boat as me.
I do have a question for y'all.
I'm nervous as to how competitive I am.
I got a 90% on the TEAS and have a 3.8 GPA in the 5 core classes they look at. Should I retake the TEAS on my scheduled NU date? Or should I just focus on the essay.
Elizabeth Staible said I need to get a 4/5 on the essay to remain competitive. I've been going to the writing center and the tutors said there is no reason my essay's won't get in... but then again, they aren't grading it the way the nursing admissions will.
All in all, anxiety is up the roof, as I am sure many of you are experiencing right now too.
@Daybreak Won you said there are 5 core classes? I was told there were only 4? Anatomy, physiology, micro and bio stats.

Hi Daybreak, thanks for joining us! The GPA is based on 4 classes: A&P1/2, microbiology, and Bio stats. Also, the essay is given to random professors who grade it. At least that is what I've heard.

Did anyone else notice that they pushed the application deadline back another week? I just checked my portal and saw that it's 4/26 now.
@lilppr I really just reviewed my A&P 1/2 notes and powerpoints from my classes. I took it a year and a half after A&P so I was pretty rusty. I found the practice tests through the ATI website VERY helpful. They're a bit pricey, but I think it's worth it. If you can only afford to take one, I would recommend Practice Test B personally. That's the one I found to be harder, but I also improved the most on it from my first to my second try versus version A.
