Hi, it sounds like you already have a handle on what to expect. Every answer will be personalized to each individuals situation. I did do some research on writing college entrance exams, and it really helped me out on the essay. My best advice is to prepair ahead of time so you are not caught off guard. Good luck!

YAY! Congrats ripplecal! That is so awesome It will sneak up on you! My orientation is coming up in just a month for July! Start on your immunizations, they take a while.

Do you still have the papers that helped you out? Would you be willing to pass it along? For the TEAS, did you study anything other than the TEAS book? Any insights? Thanks for all your help!

Hello!

I left a post about 2 weeks ago asking advice about the biomedical stats class, and thank you for those who were so helpful. I'm coming to a dilemma here that I hope others can help me with...

I guess the only prerequisite I don't have is the biomedical stats class. However, I have taken a stats class before. As a matter of fact, I JUST ended it last semester. But from my understanding, National doesn't accept stats transfers? From YOUR opinion, do you think it's worth taking the class at National and spending the money to do so even though I'm not sure that I will get in?

I have the online orientation scheduled for June 8, but I would like to get an idea beforehand because summer school registration is coming up (here at my other school) and I have to figure out if I am going to take National's class or take another course for summer school. (I hope I explained that right). Basically, the orientation on June 8 will be too late for me to ask questions.

And whenever I email National, I get an automated email with no direct answer to my question. It's really frustrating! =/

Is National hard to get into? Is it worth my time to take the class? Right now, I have about a 3.5 GPA without the medical stats class. I have also already taken the TEAS and scored an 89%.

Thank you so much for your help! I wouldn't be in such a pickle if National wasn't so darn expensive just for one course!! =) LOL...

This is off topic but I think everyone should know.

Although many people are going to NU, I would recommend going elsewhere because you will have an EXTREMELY hard time getting a job considering this school DOES NOT offer EXTERNSHIPS or PRECEPTORSHIPS and nearly every hospital practically requires them nowadays. Before, you had to go to SWC for a class for externships, but now they have closed that to all outside students. I am near the end of my program, however, if given the choice, I would start over and rather go to a community college, SDSU, or USD. Those schools get better treatment and preference at the hospitals.

There are a multitude of other reasons why you should go somewhere else. Ask other recent cohorts and you will understand what I am talking about.

And before you think I am some crazy failing student, I currently have a high GPA and have a job lined up already when I am done, but it pains and infuriates me to see so many other people have issues like this.

I wish someone would have mentioned this whole externship/preceptorship bull$%# because it would have been a great learning experience. Other schools include a preceptorship as PART OF THEIR PROGRAM.

Lastly, don't think "well things will be different when we get there" because thats what everyone says.

Hi Sooperdooper, thanks for your imput, but I don't understand where you are coming from. Are you into the nursing program? The clinicals we have to do is not the same as an externship? Would you please be specific in your argument? I would like to be informed before taking my final decisions...

Hi Rosebud123, I am not sure if you biomedical stats would be transferred, I don't see why not. My student advisor is great, maybe you can give him or another a call!

I took my stats class already and all those class are held online. I had a great professor and had an A in that class. Sorry for not being of more help, but I think you can get better answers calling the adviser :)

Ps: Congrats, you scored high in your TEAS. You need a minimum of 2.75 GPA, but You need to do very well in your Stats, AP classes and micro, at least if you are going into the nursing program. Good Luck!

Thank you so much for your help!! Would you mind providing me with a name and number of someone at National that I could call? I don't have an advisor because I haven't applied yet. I just need someone that I can talk to, and that email contact is soooo not helpful!! =)

You're welcome! Yes, you can call the number I provided to you, even that you are not enrolled yet, ---------- can still be your advisor and give you orientations... If he is not the right one, he'll be able to direct you to the right person :) Oh, I just realized that they don't allow was to give out numbers, that's why you never got in the message :rolleyes: I need to have posted so many thread before I can send you a message offline. Totally agree with Sooperdooper! I too am nearing the end of the nursing program and am extremely disappointed with the faculty, Dean and Director. We no longer have the opportunity to do externships - student nurse programs outside of our nursing core curriculum. These are not the mandatory clinicals, but paid positions as non-licensed nursing students. This was a chance for nursing students at NU to network and get on the job experience in the form of a paid preceptorship with a possible job upon graduation or passing the NCLEX. These preceptorships are offered as classes at every other school in San Diego EXCEPT for NU. The job market in SD is extremely competitive for new grads. All hospitals are decreasing their number of accepted applicants or discontinuing their programs all together. There are many people from recent graduated cohorts that do not have jobs 6 months to a year out of school!! Don't be fooled into thinking there is a demand for nurses right now. There isn't. Do your homework regarding NU and then go somewhere else.

FYI...contact someone in the nursing dept. The general advisors, although they mean well, can actually steer you in the wrong direction...I'm all too familiar with it.

I have a question for sdwannabe1 and Sooperdooper... I'm concerned about not having externships and preceptorships at NU, so I talked to an RN friend of mine and she said that they are two different things. The externships are paid positions that are funded by grant money, so it doesn't surprise her that they are no longer available since there isn't any money to fund those kinds of programs right now. The preceptorships are unpaid clinical hours spent one on one (I think) with a licensed nurse to get us ready to work on our own (and are built into the nursing program itself). If that is correct, then is it true that NU no longer has either one to offer? Or is it just the paid externships that they have canceled? Thank you so much for your input on this, it will make a big difference in whether or not I try to pursue my education with NU.

Also, you both mentioned some other issues that you've had. Would you mind sharing some of them? I understand if you don't want to share that information. But I greatly appreciate it if you do. Thanks again! :)
