National University San Diego Cohort 66

Published

Hello Pre-Nursing Students! I thought I'd start a new thread since the application deadline for Cohort 66 is only few months away.

I plan on applying for November 2020 deadline. I recently transferred from a community college and will be taking BST 322 and ILR 260 with NU. I will also be taking the TEAS by October. Please feel free to share your stats: GPA, TEAS, work experience, second degree (if any).

Nothing Yet,Hopefully by Friday! I heard they were waiting on the 13 students to defer into cohort 66 or 67. I think they're backed up with that situation and all our applications:/

Hi,

Roseman University (one campus in Henderson, NV and one in South Jordan, Utah) and Ameritech College of Healthcare (Draper, Utah). Both schools have accreditation, both have ABSN programs (16 months in Nevada and 18 months in Utah). I have kids too. My husband will stay in California, and I will go to Nevada or Utah with kids. I'm not sure if NU accepts me (my stats: GPA is 4, but TEAS is only 86%).

I see that you said ABSN, do you have a non nursing degree already? or all the pre reqs we did for national university will qualify us for the ABSN? this is interesting, I may have to do the same. moving away for a year and a half isn't all so bad! haha how many kids do you have? that is nice you plan on taking them too! I may do the same! poor hubby.. he will get a year off from all the craziness LOL! I have 2 boys ages 6 and 3

Hi,

Yes, I have a previous bachelor's degree and need only an ABSN program. So, if you are interested, try Creighton University in Arizona too. It's only a 12 months program. If you didn't take a Chemistry class, take it and apply. The fall cohort will start in August. You can apply even if you don't complete all prerequisites. No TEAS! NCLEX rate is 95%. I will apply to this university too. I'm OK to leave California. I don't want to waste my time and wait for a miracle here.

P.S I have two kids too: a 10 yo boy and a 3 yo girl.

aww bummer! I don't have any previous associates or bachelors degree. All I have are the pre reqs required to get into NU unfortunately. So now, I am totally losing hope ? I put all my eggs in one basket with NU.. I feel like they failed to tell us the truth just so people still take there classes etc.. I spend 1750 for the biostat and 1650 for the ILR 260 class.

If it makes you feel any better I feel the exact same way! I applied to NU with a 71 on my TEAS and a 3.3, My advisor made it seem like these stats were fine because I have years of experience in the field. It was until the nursing forum I stated to question if I should retake my TEAS. But at that point it was too close to the application deadline. Then finding this forum and seeing everyone's stats I feel like there is no way I could get in especially since they are cutting the slots in half and have twice the applicants. I feel like they weren't very fourth coming with this so they could make money off of Biostats and IRL.

Don't give up! There are lots of other options. One of my friends applied to Yuba College. Yes, it's an ADN, but it will cost $5600. Try other schools out of California.

P.S. I have completed all my prerequisites at NU. I strongly believed that with my stats I will have a chance but now I'm not sure...too many applicants with high TEAS&GPA.

If it was normal, and the dates werent pushed back, and the normal amount being accepted then absolutely you had a very very high chance! I mean I think you wouldve made it, I cant remember if my friend is in cohort 64 or 65 but she got in with her TEAS at 87, and GPA 3.5. I feel like they shouldve let us know, I wouldnt have wasted my time but business is business, they need ppl to pay for there outrageously expensive classes. the 2 schools that you applied for in utah and nevada, those are both ABSN? I wonder if there are any other schools similar to NU for BSN degree, I cant afford the whole 4 year traditional thing especially with kids etc.

Who was your advisor? I find that alot of them say whatever you want to hear, and won't tell you straight up that an 86 and above is what you should get to have a good chance. I had to pry it out of my advisor. I constantly asked what grade do I atleast NEED to get to have a good chance and she said 86. I honestly feel like they make so much off the pre reqs but I guess it is business. I worked my butt off, and this happens. It will be backed up for a while since the next group will apply to the next cohort, and so forth. They have ppl in cohort 65 moving into 66 or 67 of there choice which means, it'll take atleasta year or even longer for it to get back to normal, unless they open up another BSN class, and accept double the amount of students... which I don't see why not. haha just mean more money for them.

I hope we hear back soon this is so frustrating having everything delayed. Wah! As soon as anyone hears back, let us know!

I haven't heard anything yet - denial or invitation to interview. Neither have my two other friends that have applied. We are hoping that by the end of today there is some news.. since cohort 65 learns who gets deferred or not today.

I also started looking into other colleges. About 3 months ago I reached out to Roseman University of Health Sciences in Las Vegas and got my transcripts evaluated.

Good news:

- They DO NOT require a bachelors degree to apply to their 16 month ABSN program. I do not have a previous bachelors. The advisor I spoke to said that I just needed to have over a certain amount of credits (over 54 credits).. including specific courses: anatomy, physiology, Microbiology, statistics, english, sociology, psychology, Chemistry, college math and a couple humanities electives.

- They have a similar format to NU, 1 course at a time.

- They accepted National's BioMed Stats to fulfill their statistics requirement! (So that class wasn't a total waste.)

- The program is shorter and cheaper than National.

- The cost of living in Las Vegas is lower than in San Diego.

- They accept courses from StaighterLine. (Not any of the core science courses though.)

Bad news:

- They require Chemistry. (I am finishing up my lab portion this week through NU.)

- They require "college" math and won't accept "intermediate" algebra to get into their program. I will be taking college math through StraighterLine next month.

Moral of the story: There are other schools out there guys! Don't lose hope. If you're dead set on applying to National, retake your TEAS to make yourselves more competitive and then reapply ?

Thank you so much for this info! I was looking into this school as well. 16 months isn't that long to get away. I planned on waiting a year to reapply and let everything work out with NU but that year of waiting, I could just go here. When you say they won't accept core science courses from straighterline is that like ap1 and ap2, Microbiology etc?

Has anyone heard anything back yet? I'm sure they will be held over zoom.

I agree- The more people who voice it the better. I have a phone call with my advisor on Monday, I plan on voicing this concern. Especially since they were able to waive application attempts for previous cohorts that were adversely affected by COVID.

how did the call go with your advisor? I think I will email the nursing department since my advisor knows nothing, and doesnt do anything to help. The nursing department is definitely more help than advisors.
