National University ABSN Jan 2012

Published

Has anyone else on here applied for the National University ABSN (San Diego) to start Jan 2012? Trying to locate fellow applicants....

I think you're going to be fine! I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to get in because I only had 69.05 points exactly haha. I guess I must've done well on the essay?

Ohhhh that's good news!!!! Do you feel that you did well on the essay? I'm wondering how they grade them? Oh I'm just so excited for you guys...I hope I'm there in January, too! We can all become forum friends to real life school friends! Haha I'm jumping the gun, just trying to remain positive ;)

Congrats, NU cohort 29!!! :)

I was pretty confident with what I wrote, but I do think it could have been better. How do you feel about your essay?

I mean, I feel that it was okay. I was pretty happy with it, but I don't know what I'm up against...that's the tough part. I'd like to think that it was at the very least worth a 15/20...but I'd hope for better :) Will we ever find out our grades?!

Is anyone commuting from Orange County??

I saw that in her email and wondered the same??! Omg if I don't get in with y'all I'm just gonna cry!!! :(

I want to know now!!!!!!!! Where is everyone in my cohort--not ONE person has posted a peep. Ugh.

Ok, so I read that you can have them break down the points. I'm curious as to what I got on my essay. Is anyone else going to ask? lol

We should be getting the info packet this week, right? I'm sure all of the info on orientation and stuff will be in that. I'm curious about the hours and everything. Does anyone know ANYTHING about the program?

Also, Kimmy, how do you like the Soc 500? Deciding which class to take... :)

Congratulations everyone! I was also accepted to Cohort 29. I was trying to find information on orientation and I found this thread. I took A&P with ----- and Micro with ---- at Spectrum during the day. I'm taking SOC 500 now, followed by Spn 340a in Nov and Spn 341 in Dec.

I call NU today and talked to ------- for about 15 minutes. She said our orientation date is Nov 30-Dec 1. She confirmed that they have made a lot of changes to the program to increase NCLEX pass rates. She also said funds are not due at that time, but will be billed the same way our classes are posted.

Have you guys received packets yet? That's the one thing I forgot to ask about.

I was told about the changes at the forum I attended. I don't think that the higher standards are necessarily a bad thing. The ATI testing at the end of each class is supposed to help prepare you for the nclex. I guess it is very similar. Just look at it this way, nursing isn't an easy field to go into. The whole reason that we have to take the TEAS to get into nursing school was put into place because of such a high drop out rate.

Anyway, I've gone into this knowing that it's not going to be easy, but at the same time I'm not planning on letting my grades slip. I wouldn't stress it guys. Good luck to everyone!! :)

OH! And I'm pretty sure that the lady said the study lab has the ATI stuff to study from.

Off that subject...Is anyone coming form the Temecula/Murrieta area? I'm hoping to find someone to commute with! :)

And Marie, did you ask about where clinicals will be?

I attended the Nursing Forum last November. I didn't hear about the changes until I joined this site. NU's Nclex pass rate has hovered in the 70's for the last 5 years. http://www.rn.ca.gov/schools/passrates.shtml I'm happy they made the changes, but I can only imagine what it was like for those who were already in the program. It's not what they changed, it's HOW they chose to implement those changes. Nursing Programs change all the time, but usually those changes apply to future cohorts, not existing cohorts. I'm not sure I like the possibility of drastic changes to a Nursing program I'm already in.

My heart is dead set on graduating in 2013 with my BSN, I just don't want any nasty surprises. I asked ------- about clinical sites, she said the schedule comes out 4 to 6 weeks before the class. She never mentioned which hospitals.

I live in Eastlake but a few of my old classmates lived in Temecula. I'm so happy I was accepted into the program, but at the same time I'm careful with my money.... I don't want to make any mistakes that I can't afford to regret.

Marie, who are you taking for Spanish? I think my professor's name is ---- or something.

Hi Phegley

Its at the South bay campus. class #61508 SPN 340A. Spanish for the Work Place. With ------

Next month I have -------- Spn 341. class #65827
