1)I choose to read to shut of my mind and put myself elsewhere in the world. A good book is hard to beat when you are trying to relax or recharge.
2) An attribute that is important for CMs to have is honesty. Patients rely on us to give them facts about their disease processes, their management, and resources that are or are not available to them and why. If we are honest and build that trust and rapport we can do a better job with our patients.

Communicating and connecting is an important attribute to today’s professional case manager. I find being able to communicate with people, by hearing and listening to the need and then connecting them to the resource to close the gap is the core to case management. Sometimes that means helping your client still themselves as well to think about what priority in their lives is and then we go from there.

Being a true patient advocate - while working within the constraints of insurance, family dynamics, and perceived barriers.
1. While at work sometimes I make myself get up and walk around ...outside if possible. I find this activity grounds me and allows me to recenter. At home - it may be cooking, exercising or watching a silly show.
2. I think I am old fashion but to me a good case manager is an advocate first and foremost. Discharge is not an afterthought. The view of the CM is holistic. The CM is organized and passionate to work for their client.
As a Case Manager I travel a lot and this is my time to take a breath and enjoy the scenery esp now that the Fall foliage is taking place

I do practice meditation to balance myself and if I am balanced and peaceful, I can radiate peace and generate love to others, specially my members who I speak daily to meet their goals.
the most important attribute of today’s professional case manager is understanding and communication with the clients and interdisciplinary team members. To assess the client and making a client oriented goal, we need to bring ourselves at their level by generate love and compassion. Once they establish trust to us, they will be more cooperative and open up. The more we know the member deeply , making goal and reaching the goal will be easier and successful.
1. What are some things you do to give yourself time to think and breathe?
Turn off TV,(All electronics), and Take a walk outside around my yard ALONE- touch the greenery-pull off a dead leaf, trim a branch, admire the flowers- Take Deep breathes and Count my blessings!!
2. What do you think is the most important attribute of today's professional case manager?
Listen carefully, Stay calm and help people prioritize to accomplish one thing at a time.
It is hard to narrow it down to one single attribute, but overall I would say the ability to care .
Sometimes just knowing that you have someone in your corner that cares enough to is try is enough to change the dynamics of a situation.
You can overcome not having experience.
You can learn critical thinking skills.
Without caring, you won't be motivated to be an advocate or do either of the above.
When you care, you will work at finding solutions, and you will be motivated to go the extra mile.
It may require learning new things /expanding your knowledge base, but if you care enough, you will be motivated to put in the work and extra effort to find the best option or best solution.
There are many attributes that make a good case manager.
Being able to establish a rapport with someone and gain their trust is essential.
Having patience and good listening skills are also very useful.
At the end of the day, every case manager brings their own experiences and skills to the table.
I great manager once told me, no two case managers will ever approach a situation in the same exact way, but they usually arrive in the same place at the end of the day.
It takes someone that simply cares enough to try.

1) Take time to walk every day, early morning when it is quiet and after dinner with my dog. Also enjoy sitting outside under a big shade tree. Taking care of a small flower garden and knitting.
2) Advocate for patients, compassion, time management, and providing support and education so the patients can be independent and knowledgeable.
