I have applied to Nassau Community College's Nursing Program for the third and final time. I have been declined two other times and if I get denied a third time I will not apply again. It is getting a little embarrassing that I keep on getting declined.

Their lose is another school's gain...

Natingale,

I applied to NCC today. My GPA from NCC is a 3.8 -- however, 3 classes I took in 1986 are being factored in as they apply to the nursing program. Long story short, I'm looking at a GPA of 3.69 for the application process. The only pre-req I have left to complete is micro. Would you mind telling me what your experience is? Did you have any/many classmates with a GPA of 3.6 / 3.7? I'm going crazy trying to imagine my odds! Many thanks.

my classmates are dishonest ...LOL jk ..nah i think your good, you applied to days right?

I met someone on orientation who had a 3.3 or 3.4 and got in

do you know your ranking score? points for grades, where you live etc etc

mine was 120 i think or 114 ..i get it mixed up with my nln score

if you dont know what a ranking score is, dont worry about it i dont either

someone from allnurses.com told me what mine was lol

Natingale,

Thanks for your quick answer. It was encouraging! I don't know my score either. But, I do live in Nassau County, so I know I get points for that. I'll try to figure out my score, thanks for your help.

Forgot to say that I did apply for days.

If you don't mind me asking what did you get for your NLN-PAX exam score. I had to take the test for Farmingdale and I got a 129 (and the other score was an 89.. i had a hard time understanding the grades but the proctor sort of explained it to me.) And then yesterday I received an email saying I was wait listed for Farmingdale and should hear back shortly.

What exactly does it mea when they say you are waitlisted?

no waitlist in NCC ...if you get a rejection letter

DONT PANIC!!!

a seat may open up from the time you get that letter, to the first day of class. A classmate of mine got rejected last spring...andddddddd thennnnnn got another letter like in June stating a seat had opened up.

Good luck to all the applicants, its a GREAT program ..i know it sounds cliche, but every clinical site ive been to, there are NCC (new grads) who had no problems finding jobs. I actually went application crazy and applied to 5 schools, I got into all of them ...I choose Nassau because they prepare you for e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g.

this is what my email from farmingdale said....

"Your application for admission to the Nursing program at Farmingdale State College has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee. We are pleased to inform you that you have been placed on the waiting list for the Fall 2009 semester, which begins on August 31, 2009.

Your next step in the admissions process is to register for the National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination for a Registered Nurse program. The exam will be offered at Farmingdale State College on several Fridays and Saturdays during February and March. You must register for the exam at"

Basically i am just waiting to hear whether or not i got in since I already took the test.

So what does that mean? What exactly is waitlisted? Were you accepted as long as you did good on your test?

I think its just a standard message that they send. I was told they have about 1500 applicants per semester. Right at the start 1000 are knocked off due to not having the pre-req's and for lower grades. The 500 left are asked to take the test and told that they are wait listed. I took the test and my score was an 89. The proctor told me the lowest they take is an 80 and that the highest is a 99. If you got in the high 90's you are told right away whether you were accepted. For the rest of us they review our grades, GPA's, how many credits we have towards the degree and at some schools where you live. So basically wait listed just means I am waiting to hear back from them.

Hope this clears things up for you... did you apply to Farmingdale also?

You have a better change of getting into NCC if you live in Nassau County? I live in QUeens literally 3 minutes from the borderling....but I guess that wont count?

Is Farmingdale like that as well? I'm curretnyl taking my pre-reqs at Farmingdale

At NCC they give preference to Nassau County residents. I am not sure if Farmingdale does the same thing. Do you get charged double tuition at Farmingdale for being a Queens resident? If you do then they probably show preference.
