Nassau Community College Spring 2022 Applicants Chat

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to create a thread for applicants of Spring 2022 to come and chat.

Ill be applying with transfer credits for General Psych, Eng 1 and A's in AP1, Developmental Psych, Stat, Biomed Ethics. AP2 to be completed in Summer session 2. My TEAS average is 78, with science a 60 followed by next lowest score of ELA as 70, but I am retaking it this Aug.

Applying for Day program  bc I fear Night is out of reach for me RN.

Catherine

I Emailed the person who handles the admissions this is the rubric for all who would like to know

Response:

“Here is how admissions works.

We look at your grades in courses that apply to nursing.

Each grade has a numerical equivalent:

A = 4

A- = 3.75

B+ = 3.5

B = 3

B- = 2.75

C+ = 2.5

C = 2

We multiply the numerical value of your grade by the number of credits that the course is worth (either 3 or 4 credits).

For instance: if you received a grade of A (4) in ENG 101 (a 3-credit course), 3 x 4 = 12. You get 12 points for that course.

We do this for each course that applies to nursing.

Then we add all those numbers together.

For the TEAS:

If your score is 58.7 - 79.9, you get 5 points.

If your score is 80 - 91.99, you get 10 points.

If your score is 92 - 100, you get 15 points.

We add together your points for the TEAS tests, and the points for your courses. You get 10 points for living in Nassau County.

The applicant who receives the highest number of points is admitted first, the applicant with the second highest number of points is admitted second, and so forth, until we fill up the 96 seats in the program.

There is no magic number that gets you in.  Every semester, we have a different group of applicants with a different set of credentials.“

Additional information
The 10 course are: A&P1, A&P2, Eng1,Eng2, Stats, BioMedEthics, Pathophisology, MedMicoBio, Psych1, Psych Lifespan development.

you get 10point for being a Nassau county resident

you don’t not get an extra 5points

but you lose 5 points if previously in a nursing program

the max points for all A’s (132), 92 or better in all parts of TEAS (60) and living in Nassau county(10) total is 202 points.

I’m siting at 153 but retaking the TEAS hoping to boost by at least 20 more points

Also the 96 seats is 2/3 day 1/3 night you can only choose to apply to one or the other.

Hey I also intend on applying for the Spring 2022 day program. As of right now I have 8 classes done and I am taking Microbiology now. My grades are:

A&P 1 B+

A&P 2 A

Ethics: A

Eng 1 A

Eng 2 A

Psych 1 B-

Psych 2 A

Stats B+

I took the TEAS last year and got 95 on the Reading and Math. 75 on the Writing and Science. Hoping to bring my Writing and Science above 80 and targeting 85+ in them to bring my TEAS average above 90.

I applied with just three classes and my TEAS and I got a pretty hard no last time so I loaded up on classes during Fall 2021 and two for the Summer

You are shoe in if u get those last 2 classes in don’t for get Pathophysiology

Finished Micro with an A and retook the TEAS scoring 97.9 in Reading, 96.9 in Math, 91.7 in writing, and 87.2 in Science. All said and done, this now ups my rubric to 172.75 if my excel sheet is correct. I really hope they round up for my writing score on the TEAS to put me at 177.75 instead. I feel like with my current grade I am going to get in, but I am just nervous/excited. Been working really hard on this for months and now the time is finally coming to see that hard work pay off. This has really just put me into an incredibly strange state of mind.

Oh you’re a shoe in!!
I feel like congratulating you already LOL ;-)

good job there famous kitten! I hope I’m a part of your cohort! :)

I hope so! I can't wait to joke about all this craziness with you all a few months from now ?

I hope so!

How did you feel about micro? I heard it’s very hard!

did you get the same exam for the TEAS as your previous attempt? Mine was and I’m wondering if it’s a fluke or if it’s designed as the retakes being the same exact exam.

Honestly I think it is easier and more relatable than A&P. Also taking it online really cushioned it. My professors were both incredibly accommodating and made their best effort to get us through the course, which made a good grade very accessible. I also am horrible at lab so having that online really made a world of difference for me.

Regarding the TEAS, I took my first attempt over a year ago so I don't quite remember the test. I will say that I got lucky though. I went onto quizlet and reviewed literally every science set of questions I could find for an entire week. I would say like four questions appeared word for word the same on the test and on the quizlets. There were like three other ones that were extremely similar. If I had to guess, they probably use the same test bank and renew it annually. As for the exam, they probably randomize the question bank when you start the exam. I imagine the quizlets that I found are made by people retaking it and they just memorized those specific questions to study or look up later.

Makes sense on the TEAS and thank you for the micro breakdown. What was your teachers name may I ask? I’ll be taking it in the Spring!

Professor Shah for lecture and Professor Matcha for lab. I think they were the kindest/most accomodating professors that I have had, but a fair warning that both have heavy South Asian accents. Other students really struggled with that, but I personally think their teaching style is worth the tradeoff

I applied for NCC Spring 2022 as a back up plan, because I'm a transfer student from SCCC. I graduated from the LPN program. I have all my prerequisites completed, except for Microbiology. I took the TEAS not knowing that it's not a requirement for LPN applicants. So there are day and evening classes? I'm hoping to get into the day program though -- we shall see.

Hello future nurses, I applied for NCC Spring 2022 night program.

I have a question -- however if this isn't the correct board to ask the question please advise. Does anyone need to take the challenge test for NCC for advanced standing as a LPN? Feel free to send me a private message.
