Nassau Community College Nursing Program

U.S.A. New York

Has anyone ever gotten into the Nassau Community College nursing program with all of their pre class done except for A&P 2 and medical microbiology? I have everthing expect for those 2 and i was wondering what my chances were of getting in on the first try.

I Heard that to get in is extremely difficult since you need a real high GPA and the more classes you have , the better are the chances. I actually

But , hey you never know.

I applied for spring 09 and never sent my application fee because I got discouraged anyways they keep asking me to get back to them with my immunization records and hs transcript I feel that I shouldn't spend $ 40.00 in a school that for sure I won't get in- I have 3.2 but all my prerequisites are done except for micro which Im working now (Im at SCCC) I also applied for SCCC, Molloy and NYU. I'm waiting impatiently:bugeyes:

Good Luck to you!

You can get in to the NCC nursing program with A & P 1, Psych 101, English 101, Math100 or higher. It is better to have more done, even though they say they don't choose based on that. It is easier to get into NCC with a lower GPA in September than January. Same with the Day classes you can have a lower GPA as opposed to the night classes.

You have to keep in mind you are competeing with people in the high 3.7- 4.0 Range. You do not want to get stuch taking A & P 2 or Medical Micro during the program. Most of us just took Medical Micro and/or A & P 2 in the summer session, before starting the second/third semester of the nursing program.

My advice is to apply anyhow and just take a shot! Even if you don get in this time you can always try the following semester and have more classes under your belt. Or you can always apply to Adelphi along with Molloy and other bachelor programs.

I think Pace University in the city is offering partial/free tuition to those who already have a bachelors in something else other than nursing and are looking to become nurses. Its only a 16 month program from what I read. So if you went to school before and got a degree look into it!!!

I'm curious to hear from anyone who who went to Nassau via the Advanced Standing LPN route. I know all about the program and what has to be done but would appreciate a PM from a LPN attending or graduated from NCC. TIA!

I dont think anyone who has done that or is in the process is on here, but I will let those who are in my class who are LPN's know that someone is asking questions

Thanks a lot. Do you know when the winter intersession begins?

I'm (almost) in the same boat as you. I'm working on my last pre-req for NCC -- MAT 100. I'm going to apply w/out the micro or A&P II. Check w/the nursing dept. There is a seminar given once or twice a year, and the nursing chair answers ALL questions in regards to this. This question came up at the last session. She said you can apply and that they will take students w/out micro A&P II. It's all based on the GPA's that come in and the course loads. Students with the highest GPA's and micro, A&P II completed will get a seat over the students applying w/out them. However, she said not to be discouraged, sometimes you are accepted w/out them. If you are accepted w/out them, NCC recommends taking them during interim break & the summer as the nursing classes are not held in the summer. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Thanks for the message. I applied for the spring 09 semester and my gpa is 3.7 so hopefully i'll get in, we shall see.

Everyone I know in the spring semester took Micro in the summer. I tend to feel that micro and A & P are easier in the summer since I took one A & P in the fall and found it to be more difficult to absorb what we were learning. You sound like you have a very good chance of getting in to the program in the spring! Good luck!:yeah::nurse:

I took A&P in the fall also -- wonder if we had the same prof? Thanks for the info on micro for the summer. I'll give it a shot. Lots of Luck to you.

Oh I took micro the fall of 07'. Infact I think that I applied to the program and got in when I was still in the middle of that class.
