Looking for anyone who is applying to NCC for Spring / January start ( or anyone else on the road to applying) who wants others in the same situation to go through the process with.
Hey Dodmom - IN my opinion I would recommend getting a good stethoscope only because when you are doing assessments on the patient you want to be able to clearly hear whats going on.
ALso - they don't allow you to wear anything under your uniform top except a beige tank top - definately no long sleeves. I too ordered the cargigan but never wore it once...the floors arent cold at all
I ordered my nursing shoes this past week. Per the advice of Risgirl I got the Merrell's since she swears by there comfort. The online description and reviews sound like they are top notch. They are pricy but hopefully worth it. I have tiny feet (size 5) so I would've had to order it online anyway. Still need to order my transcript and get the blue slip and then I will be done!
Anyone going to the workshop on Jan. 13th?
Happy New Year!!
Hey - I'm in the NCC Evening program - only one semester left!! Definitely invest in a COMFORTABLE pair of Nursing shoes and you won't be disappointed. I have Merrells and they cost almost $100 but after 3 semesters and 8 weeks of working FT as a nurse extern over the summer, they're still in pretty good shape and my feet thank me :)Risgirl-where did you get them? Online or in a certain store?

There is a Merrell store in Huntington (I think), but I found a store in Bellmore (Incredible Feets) that ordered them for me in white and had them shipped there (so I didn't pay any extra). Most stores don't carry them in white so the store actually ordered them for me (in 2 different sizes so I could try them on) and then I only had to buy the pair that fit. I can't buy shoes without trying them on and that's the hardest part of trying to find nursing shoes - the good brand names are never in the store in the color you need!! Luckily I think you guys don't have to go to the hospital for the first month so even if you order them you should be ok with the timing;).
I have a random question, but for everyone's physical...did you have to get the TB shot? I only ask because I went for my physical on Monday, and even the doctor was amazed that he couldn't find it on the sheet. I just wanted to make sure if we needed it or not.
You only have to get the skin test for TB, and have it read and signed off that you didn't have a reaction - no shot!!
As far as I know, NO. I had all prereq done except AP I last spring, with AP I in progress. I was told I could not apply until AP I is complete. Although I was not happy with that answer, I did AP II in summer, and Micro in Fall, and took all my co reqs in between .. and I am starting nursing 101 on Tues. Honestly, I am happy it worked out this way, because I can focus on Nursing and not have to worry about Micro or other corequisites at the same time.

Hi Evap -
I have everything exept the stethoscope. Shoes - I got Nursemates "Bryer". They have a pretty nice arch support and the are really comfortable. (take it from a bartender who's on her feet ALOT). I tried to go to LifeUniform today, but couldn't park ( thanks snow!), so I went to Work n Gear. Defininely worth going and trying on. If you find a pair you like, you can always order it once you try it.
I have already gone for my physical and go for the reading of the TB test results on Monday. I do think they want it done by the 7th so if there are any problems with any results we have time to correct them.
What kind of stethescope did you get? I ask my friend, a medical resident, and she recommended Littman, but at the interview they said to get a "short one". Only ADC has a 22", but I am just concerned with being able to hear every sound clearly.
And does anyone know if we are allowed to wear long sleeve cotton shirt under scrub tee? I am always cold with my bear skin, but I think cardigan ( that I ordered) may be too warm.
oh.. and HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone!!
