Looking for anyone who is applying to NCC for Spring / January start ( or anyone else on the road to applying) who wants others in the same situation to go through the process with.
just get the nursing shoes. most of my nassau professors were totally against sneakers, even the all-white ones. i wore nursemates' nursing shoes and white hose for two years. i survived just fine
now that i'm on my own, i love love love earth shoes vegan "glide" sneakers. so comfortable.
Merry Christmas to all of you -
Jerrysgirl= Yes that was me in the first row by the window. I was pretty nervous too. ( my pen was shaking while trying to write my answers to the question) I was afraid they were going to boot me out for shaky penmanship. I haven't gotten ANYTHING yet. I had Micro finals the night of the interview and Biomed Ethics on Monday. Then work and now Christmas! I will go for the books this week. I am only going to get the 2 I checked off for the moment. OH- I also did get a Basic Math for Dummies book. I haven't worked with fractions since the 90's. LOL.
Did anyone get thier physical yet? Earliest appointment I could get was Dec 30th. I hope the Doc can get me results in time. See you in January!!
kap721,Good luck to you too. I went to Stony Brook as an undergrad and I know how long the trek is. At least now you'll save gas money
I registered for the evening program and I'm in T3. Anyone else in that section? I'm taking the advice of one of the nursing teachers and telling my family that if they want to buy me Christmas presents - buy me books, uniforms, stethoscopes and nursing shoes. Does anyone know if they're strict about nursing shoes or do people get by with white sneakers?
Hey - I'm in the NCC Evening program - only one semester left!! Definitely invest in a COMFORTABLE pair of Nursing shoes and you won't be disappointed. I have Merrells and they cost almost $100 but after 3 semesters and 8 weeks of working FT as a nurse extern over the summer, they're still in pretty good shape and my feet thank me :)
You'll find that you do a lot of STANDING in clinicals at night. You may not be moving much when the patients don't need anything, but you sure as heck won't be sitting...trust me all that standing in one place takes a toll on the tootsies so treat them well.
Interview was a breeze, grateful for the advice though!
Irish 201, I'm also in section B7.
After the interview, I ordered my uniform online the same day, I also bought the textbook, the stethoscope, and band aid scissors, etc. all on the same day. I had my physical the following tues. (before Christmas). I was so consumed with my final for A&P II and with Christmas that I wanted to get everything out of the way. I also finished the bio they require and got my passport photos. The only thing I have left is to buy my nursing shoes, submit the health form and pick up the blue slip, and order my updated transcript. My uniform came yesterday in the mail but still haven't opened it. Hopefully it'll fit.
Is anyone going to the workshop on Jan. 13th? I plan on attending. We can also buy the NCC patch for our uniform there.
To all the NCC new enrollees - whatever you do don't wait until the last minute to get your blue slip! It probably won't take too long because you guys are starting mid year, but in the Fall I waited on line for over an hour and was almost late for class! If you can go on a day before classes start I say go for it!
From the packet we got at orientation we're supposed to submit our health forms by Jan 7th. I'm not sure if that's a strict deadline or if they just want us to make sure to get it done quick but I'm going to try stick to it. There are holds on my records from health services regarding immunization the last time I checked. Sounds like it's been a problem in the past. I ordered my books, uniform, got a watch & stethoscope for Xmas. I'm going to shop for nursing shoes now. Wish I could just order them online but I've heard from other nurses that they don't have great arch support for flat feet so I definitely need to try some shoes on before I buy them or slip some arch supports in. Going to definitely wear white support hose underneath my uniform if we're going to be standing.
