Nassau Community College : Anyone Applying for Spring 2011

Published

Looking for anyone who is applying to NCC for Spring / January start ( or anyone else on the road to applying) who wants others in the same situation to go through the process with.

Thanks Dogmom...I'm glad I can help

The first day of school you don't ned to bring any books - Just whatever is on the paper you were given at your interview - Blue Slips, autobiography, math test, etc.

YOu do not need to bring any textooks the first day of class just a notebook and a pen.

YOu will be given on the first day ALOT of different booklets...so if you want to bring something I suggest you bring a two inch binder to put all these booklets in that you will need all semester (they have the three wholes punched out)

i agree with dogmom. You have been extremely helpful. Thank you so much!! So far all the nursing students at Nassau have been the nicest, even when standing in line waiting at registrar asking a bunch of questions.

is the math test the first day we get back to school? i remember that we had to complete a pre-test and then another when school started.

At the interview-it was stated that there would be a math test on the 1st day of class, but at the orientation, we were told (by whom I don't remember) that there would NOT be. I am studying, just in case.

Also - I had a problem with my blue slip. My MUMPS titer came out negative. I had a new booster, but won't get to take another titre for 6 weeks. They would not give me blue slip and told me I have to speak to the Nursing dept. ( this was Friday). I am a bit worried - especially since I have had the MMR series done twice already ( this is my third time- first as a baby, and again in 1991) and it seems that some people just don't show positive on some of these titres. I hope this will not be a problem.

You will get a math test in the first week of school (don't remember if it was the first day or not) but teh test is NOT graded. I tis just to see what level you are at. Then they will put people in groups according to their level and you will work from there.

I tried to get into Chemistry 131 this semester, but was wait listed :( They don't seem to offer it in the Winterim, either. I hope I can have enough prerequisites done by September 2012...!!!

MIndylane - You don't need chemistry to get into Nassau's Nursing Program. THe only sciences you need are A&P1, A&P2, and Microbiology

Mindylane - they hold info sessions at NCC for the program that will give you EXACTLY the classes they require before you can apply and all the requirements for the whole program. You can also speak to the Nursing advisor in the admissions dept. They can explain how the "points" system works to get into the program. It takes the guess work out of the process and you'll be sure to take the classes that will benefit you the most (as far as admission to the program)!

if you can you should take chem 131 in the summer. it is not required for nassau though.

try to get into ap 1. it can be hard to get into if you have no previous college credits. ap 2 and micro you can take at the same time.

Thanks for the info, guys -- I am trying to take the prerequisites to get into Stony Brook in 2012, and I know that they require Chemistry.

hello everyone!

ive been following this thread for a while now and finally decided it was time to join..

im in section B6 for nursing 101 this spring..i wasnt able to make it to the orientation, hopefully i didnt miss out on too much :/

just wanted to wish everyone good luck tomorrow on our first day of nursing school!

i still have yet to type up my autobiography and find a passport size photo but other than that im ready to go! hope to see some of you tomorrow morning, good luck :)

Welcome MisStaken - I still need passport photo too. I am going to CVS today. I understand that they do them for a minimal fee. So excited and nervous for tomorrow. Good Luck Everyone.:D

and -might I suggest that we keep this thread (or start a new one )to use during the semester as a group study tool. I would like to join a study group, but not sure if my work/school hours will permit that.

To all of you starting tomorrow - 105 is no joke - my best advice is keep up with your reading and you'll be fine. To the 101ers - WELCOME and GOOD LUCK!! Before you know it you'll be into 2nd year and almost done. I'm going into 204 and I can't believe how fast it went and how much I've learned in the last year and a half...it's AWESOME!! :yeah:
