Has anyone Interviewed for NSCC ADN program? please share
I have been in the program for two semesters (waiting for exam grades...hoping I can continue :) now. From what I remember, the interview process and the wait afterward was tough. I did not receive my letter until the middle of April and the interviews began in March. The program is new, so there are kinks in the system. The good thing to be said about this though is that they are aware of them and actively trying to fix them. It is an associates degree program, but I assure you- it's not easy. Going into this, my GPA was one of the best in my group. Don't get used to making A's, it will happen rarely in nursing school. I promise you. We all took a hard hit when we found ourselves struggling. Nursing school is a badge of honor. I say all of this in hopes of an 80% on one of my finals... freaking out honestly. Also, anything below a 77% is an F. Welcome to nursing! If you have any other questions I would be happy to help you!
Thank you m200 for clearing things up! I hope I am still in the running, I should have taken my own advice and went down there.! Also, thank you Girlo for the information. If we get in, are there any other tips you can offer us? Do we have clinicals the first semester?If so, where at? How many hours a week is class? Good luck on your final, I hope you get at least an 80! You have come so far! Anything under a 77% is an F is scary to think of! I knew it would be tough but I never thought grades would be different. Thank you.
Funnyface-I'm sure you will be fine. Our schedule last semester was Monday in the classroom from 8-4. we did 6 weeks of clinical at west meade place. I believe clinicals were on thurs. And "skills lab" was on Friday. There is a pretty great sim lab that you learn important skills in. West meade place is a nursing home. Honestly, it was a great experience because you find your footing. They are going to ask you to jump through a ton of hoops in the very beginning, but it gets better. If you get into the program, I believe they are going to giving us new students to mentor. This will be very helpful to you guys. Wish we had that! Best of luck!
Good question. Study habits will change once you are in the program for sure. It's always about comprehension, but nursing questions are a beast of their own. When I say that there is rarely an A- that's pretty true. It's not as scary as it may seem though. We are all human, that's something you have to figure out quickly. It took our group a few months to figure that one out. The grading scale is a little funky.
A=93-100
B=85-92
C=77-84
F=everything else
There are usually three or four tests (depending on the class) and your final is worth 40% of your grade. Pharmacology is divided into four semesters. This differs from other programs who usually do it in one. There will also be a math test that you must make a 90% or above on to continue onwards. You have three chances to pass though.
If you would like to be the star pupil, grab yourself some NCLEX review tests and practice. The way that the questions are worded will be the most difficult part- This is just nursing across the board. If you want to practice the math, try your hand at problems involving dosages and their calculations. Hope this helps!
Thank you Girlo for being so helpful to all us prospectives, and for answering all of our questions :) About the math test, is it something we take before admission? Or do they give us material to study for it during the semester? Are the instructors very helpful? Being a new program I have not heard much about them. I hope I get in! Than you :)
The math test is something you take once you are in the program. I think they have learned quite a bit about what works and doesn't work from our group. so hopefully they make thing easier for the next class. The teachers have been pretty helpful, but with most nursing programs- they believe that you must learn a lot on your own. I was terrified at first with all the pressure, but I promise you develop a routine. It will all be alright! Good luck! I'm always open to answering any questions you have. Also, if you are waiting for a letter- if I remember correctly, we went through two rounds of interviews and it took them a while to send out the letters.
I really hope that I'm given the chance to interview.. I am so ready for this chapter in my life, as well as everyone else I assume! I guess if I don't, I just have to put it in the Lord's hands and trust he will pick the right path for me. I really do wish all of you the best of luck, and I hope we ALL get in! :)
