SO this story just popped up on my FB (oops I mean I read it at home, not at school). Narcan will now be available at Walgreen's and Duane Reade. I just wish more school districts would get on board with having standing orders to admin this at school.

Available with or without Rx? Just curious. Our EMS carries Narcan on their rigs. I have never felt the need to have it but looking at all the incoming data I wonder if it's not a matter of time before it hits here.
Thanks for the info!

I think it varies state to state, Ruby. I have the Narcan registered to me, NY here.
I credit this board with helping me get over my reservations about this a few years ago. The more you know...
The article stated that it would be available OTC to better assist families that may encounter a situation in their family. I am curious if school districts might lighten their policy of school nurse admin. Currently, my district does not have any standing orders for medications either epi or narcan, but yet the state has approved stock medications.
That's why I said look at your state guidelines on Narcan.

I need an order for narcan in my state. While I don't have right now.
But I am grateful that the fire station around the corner that responds to my EMS calls with O2 within 2-3 minutes carries narcan and can give it if needed.

Sorry if this sounds silly, but it's probably a good thing to know. What do they usually do for those that have encountered herion that's cut with fentanyl? I have heard narcan doesn't work?
