Hi yall! I currently live in Plano,Tx..bout .5hr north of Dallas (just moved here bout 5months ago). I am looking to attend a campus which offers an ADN program. I currently have a BS in Bio that I earned in 2005. Could any one give me or lead me to a list of all the programs offered in my area?......Also, I am affraid of some of my previous course work becoming "out dated"..ie"5yr time out"...however, I hear that if you worked in a workplace that upkeeps your practical knowledge since that time, you may not have to do remediation. In that case....since 2005 I worked as a pharmacy tech for bout a yr, and then as an apheresis/lab tech. While I worked both of these jobs, I also worked as Surgical Tech with an OPO on tissue and solid organ cases. I recently moved to Tx to pursue the OPO job full-time. My employer offered to pay for the costs of obtaining my RN.......yall think I gotta do alot of remediation?
Thanks to all of you!!

Yes, all math and science have to be retaken after 5 years, almost without exception. The only student I saw excused was a woman who works as a statistician for her current career.
Schools in this area for ASN:
Collin County Community College (arguably the most competitive and hardest to get in)
El Centro (Dallas County Community College)
Brookhaven (Dallas County Community College)
Grayson County Community College
Tarrant County College
There are probably more. There are also many schools that offer BSN. Since you already have a degree, you could potentially qualify for an accelerated program for your BSN rather than an ASN. I know Texas Women's University has that and suspect that Baylor in Dallas does too.
Good luck! I am in Allen, almost done with my pre-req's and hoping to get accepted for Spring of 2010 at CCCC.

Q: Do you have an accelerated program for 2nd degree seeking students?
A: No, but second degree students are given extra consideration during the selection process for the BSN program.

Hi TWU actually has a Fast track BS program. If you currently hold a Bachlors in anything else you can do the fast track and gain a BS in nursing in about 1 year http://www.twu.edu/nursing/fast-track.asp. As long as you have these a few basics like chem, micro, govt, his, A&P hist, stats. They honor you degree and give you credit for those basic classes in year you will be elligable to sit for RN boards. I hope that helps good luck:mad:

hey there! i have almost the same problem - my classes are too old. i took most of my classes back in 2001 and 2002. i have researched all the nursing schools in the area heavily. a lot of the schools have a 5 year rule on courses.
these schools have a 5 year rule
el centro
northlake
collin count - the dean said if you can get a letter from your employer stating your use of courses it might be waived.
no 5 yr rule
brookhaven - applipation period is now, last day to take the hesi is sept 22.
mountain view (only take classes in the fall)
kilgore college
tvcc - they have a 5 yr rule but it can be waived or challenged (by taking patho, or passing the a&p portion - although since you have a degree in biology the dean may waive your time limit).
twu - starts the 5 year rule in 2010, their admission period just closed.
i didn't look too much into tcu because their cost is like 50k for two years.
texas tech has a second degree program and has it's admissions twice a year. fall is lubbock, spring is austin campus. good luck to you!
