prior BS + ADN = BSN????
Thanks for the replies! It's a good feeling to know that other people are in a similar situation. I would've loved to have just gotten into a BSN program. It certainly does sound ideal, but the cost is pretty high. Since I already have a BS, financial aid is a no-go. In addition, getting into the BSN programs here in Dallas is pretty dang hard....not to mention expensive. I'm paying for my ADN in cash. I figured I could keep working in transplant while I do the ADN, then do a BSN bridge program afterwards. I've seen many online bridge programs that are only 2 semesters in length. I'd sure hope experience does something!lol. 90% of my classmates have little to no past clinical experience. I'd imagine that when it comes to application processes a new RN with 5yrs surgical experience > a new RN with no experience. I could be wrong though!

prior BS + ADN = BSN????
Hi y'all! I'm a ADN student in Dallas Tx with a few questions I have a previous BS degree in Human Biology/Health promotion double major earned in 2005. I've worked (currently still do) for an organ procurement organization as a first assistant in surgery and a transplant organ preservationist for the last 3.5 years. In addition, I've worked as a tissue recovery tech for a tissue bank, phleb at blood bank and a pharmacy tech. I feel as though I have a good deal of clinical experience and science background compared to most of my classmates. I'm sure my previous degree and work experience helps. (Please don't take this as bragging...I really don't have a big head) I'm currently in an ADN program. Does anyone think my prior experience will help with getting a job? From what I've heard, many places aren't hiring ADNs....but I have a prior BS and gobs of experience....I'm confused and concerned. I do plan on doing a BSN bridge, but do you think I'd get hired as an ADN? Thanks

El Centro nursing program advisors??
I'm near application ready, but I'd like to discuss a few things with an advisor. It seems that the general advisors don't have a clue with anything concerning entry to the ADN program. In attempts to gain a little more clarity, I've tried finding an advisor particular to the ADN program, but it seems there aren't any?? Is that correct?? Can someone here please give me a hint on who would be the best person to talk to about getting into the program, and where to find them? I have a few questions about the five year time limit on science classes, but I cant find anyone that can help!! Thanks so much!!

Online microbiology course in TX??
I completed Micro about 6 years ago with an A, but....it timed out. I currently work in a job that wouldn't be conducive to traditional classes at the moment. Does anyone know of an online micro bio course??? Please let me know!! Thanks so much!!

CHEM1451 equivalent for UTA??? please help
Hi! So, I'm looking to take chemistry this fall at a DCCCD location, or online. I'd like the chemistry class to be able to transfer into a BSN level program...namely UTA. I see that the UTA BSN program requires CHEM1451. I'd lilke to save the money by taking the course at a community college(DCCCD). Can someone please tell me what class through DCCCD will be accepted by UTA as an equivalent to chem1451? I've emailed several advisors at UTA, however they won't tell me what class would transfer unless I was currently a student at UTA......thats weird. Its almost like they're keeping it a secret. This is very frustrating and odd.....I've never run into this type of problem before. Thank you for any help!!

Some good advise please!? (dallas)
Hi yall! I really need a little bit of help making a major decision. So, please feel free to blast away...good, or bad. About myself: I have a BS in bio earned back in 2005. I got an "A" in stats, "B's" in A&P and micro. I retook A&P 1 and 2 last year just to keep things current. Recieved an "A" in both classes. I plan on retaking college algebra and Chem since back in my BS days, I did rather poorly. Also, I will probably need to redo micro since that class "timed out" I've worked as a cna, pharmacy tech, phlebotomist and I currently work as an organ recovery coordinator/surgical tech. I really want to get into a nursing school (ADN, or BSN), but it seems like every place needs different admissions requirements. Even despite an individual having good grades, the odds seem to be stacked against you no matter what. In efforts to give me a better chance at getting into a program, I'm considering doing a 15 month paramedic program in hopes to bridge if needed. It seems to me that since I'll be taking prereqs the next two semesters anyways, I could do the medic program simultaneously. This move would give me two options...apply to a RN bridge program, and apply the traditional route. I guess I'm freaked out about waisting time taking these clases that I already took before, score well, and still not get accepted. Can you guys and girls please tell me if I'm crazy, or does this sound like a good idea!?

Getting into CCCC in North Tx??
Hi y'all. Just to fill you all in to better help me out....I'm a 30yr old dude livin in Plano, TX. I graduated with a BS in biologogy back in 2005. I worked as a pharmacy tech and as an apheresis tech at the same time for about a year back in 2005-2006. In 2006, I was lucky enough to score a full time job with an OPO that is partnered with a tissue bank. I was hired as a scrub tech and have been scrubbing organ and tissue cases ever since. Im kinda gettin tired of workin on dead people and my work said they would provide tuition reimbursement if I went to get my RN. My question is....Do you think I have a chance at gettin into CCCC in Mckinney? I hear all of these stories about how folks with a 3.8 are even having a hard time getting accepted. Now, when people are referring to their GPA, are they talking about ONLY the "pre reqs"..ie stats, A&P 1-2 and micro....or are they referring to all other courses that apply to the program? Here are my grades......A in stats (5cr. taken at a university), B in micro, A&P 1-2 will be taken this semester, B in English, B in General psych, A in life span psych, A in Sociology, C in humanities...ouch! I'm scheduled to take PSB next month. Be honest!....think I will get in if I can score a B in A&P 1-2??

I'm scheduled to take the PSB exam as an entry exam to get into Collin County Community College RN program. Have any of you ever taken this test? I'm kinda nervous since you can only take it once a year....I don't wanna fail!! I've rented all of the study guides recommended by the school....the material in the guides look tough! I went onto PSB homepage & checked out one of thier exam examples.....it looks easier than the guides! What the heck!? Maybe I'm just wiggin out, but if anyone has taken this test......can you give me alil advice!? Also, if you have anything to say about CCCC program, I would love to listen!! One more thing....If for whatever reason, I can't get into CCCC are there any ADN programs that you would recommend applying to in my area? I have about a 3.8, but I have to retake A&P I and II....since they timed out. Thanks

N. Dallas nursing program ?'s
Hi yall! I currently live in Plano,Tx..bout .5hr north of Dallas (just moved here bout 5months ago). I am looking to attend a campus which offers an ADN program. I currently have a BS in Bio that I earned in 2005. Could any one give me or lead me to a list of all the programs offered in my area?......Also, I am affraid of some of my previous course work becoming "out dated"..ie"5yr time out"...however, I hear that if you worked in a workplace that upkeeps your practical knowledge since that time, you may not have to do remediation. In that case....since 2005 I worked as a pharmacy tech for bout a yr, and then as an apheresis/lab tech. While I worked both of these jobs, I also worked as Surgical Tech with an OPO on tissue and solid organ cases. I recently moved to Tx to pursue the OPO job full-time. My employer offered to pay for the costs of obtaining my RN.......yall think I gotta do alot of remediation? Thanks to all of you!!
