:sniff:I am just finishing up my third semester OB/Peds. I had my clinical evaluation for OB today. My clinical evaluation was amazing, she said I have no problems on the floor. However I was told a decision is still being made whether or not I will be kicked out of the program for plagerism of an outline of an article, belive me this was not intentional. I do not have this person for lecture, just four days of a clinical in OB. I am NOT an English major. All it was was an OUTLINE of an article I read on pregnancy medications. I typed it up in regular outline format, but failed to change every word from the article. I picked out the main points and narrowed it down from there. I am a mess. I tried to handle myself as professionally as possible. It's been one hell of a week. My husband just left me on Monday after 12 years of marriage. I turned over the outline and told her in my own words what the article was about. She seemed ok with that, but no definitive decision has been made. I can barely breathe. Please help....
Also...I cant tell you how many students didnt even hand in their freakin articles. Is anything happening to them? Of course not. I would have been better off not doing one and especially handing it in early, maybe then she wouldnt have had time to pull up the original one from the internet. I took me two hours just to find an updated one btw.

I am so sorry about your husband. Ouch! I am not sure I could go on like you are. At least you are.
I have a hard time with trying not to plagiarize. Its very difficult for me to read and then report on it (and I was honors English in college) and not "accidentally" mess up. Its a fine line, I suppose. Good luck and let us know what happens.
I never cheat. I do NOT like cheaters. In fact, there was a guy cheating over my shoulder during my A&P final last week. I did not know until later, when a classmate told me, and I was so MAD!

Hopefully your instructors will see past the mistake and understand your intent. What a shame to kick someone out of the program for something (IMO) so trivial. If you were writing a research paper and presenting the info as your own work, then I could understand, but rewording an outline of an article is not in the same league. Sorry to hear about your husband. Take care of yourself and try not to let yourself get to beat down by everything that is going on :redbeathe

Plagiarism isnt trivial tfleuter, no matter what the form and the type of assignment. Its taking the work and thoughts of others and passing them off as your own. At my school, plagiarism is serious business. It was the same at my University for undergrad.
bpimommy, I am sorry that you run the risk of being kicked out. However, you needed to include the appropriate citations in your paper. Have you been taught APA format and citations? If not, then I very much recommend getting the publication manual. In the mean time you can learn more here http://www.apastyle.org/manual/index.aspx
I wish you the best of luck and hope that they don't kick you out and this just is just chalked up to a lessened learned.
I agree, true plagerism isn't trivial, but if I'm understaind the OP correctly, then this was an assignment where an article was to be read and then submitted in an outline format. There was no indication for a need for APA format, nor is resummerizing an outline trying to to pass off the work as one's own idea.
Yes, I did cite the article at the top of my outline in APA format. I was doing research all night trying to find a definitive answer on how to properly outline (not summarize) a nursing journal article. I came across this great web site, easy to read and understand with samples given.... Check it out.....

I e-mailed the professor ths morning regarding what happened and recieved an e-mail shortly back; advising me to move on and focus on studying for finals. What a relief. Wow! What a tough lesson to learn, but glad I am now educated on how to not plagiarize. I suppose she realized it was an unintentional mistake.:icon_roll
I want to thank you all for your support. It has helped me to read through your responses. Breathing again! :lvan:
That is great news! Good to see that your instructor understood the INTENT of the mistake. Good luck on your finals :)
thats great that you can now move past this situation and concentrate on your finals!

One could only imagine how you initially felt. I am glad that things worked in your favor today. My heart dropped when I read the title of this thread. My school takes plagerism very seriously. I just recently completed a research paper and was so nervous about the possibility of plagerising something. I made sure I cited everything (direct quotes, paraphrasing, and summarization), APA style. good Luck to you and please CITE every piece of information you submit that is not your own.
I wish you all the best, and here's a hug :heartbeat to cheer you up:jester:.
