I completed my first Kaplan question trainer last night and I did absolutely horrible because the first three question trainers are based on recall and recognition. Throughout nursing school I was only able to retain information for an upcoming test and for some reason as soon as the test was complete I seemed to forget everything. I know I am not stupid but I am in a bind here because I am taking the NCLEX on April 21st and how am i supposed to review content, do my 50-60 questions per day, and then review the rationales?
I need some guidance as far as what will be the most effective way for me to continue preparing because quite honestly I feel lost at the moment =(. I could not sleep last night because of how poorly I did and here I am at work wondering if i have it in me to do this =(.

Don't stress yourself out so much on the first 3 trainers. Just review the rationals and get used to the Kaplan style questions. The first q trainers you are still getting used to the decision tree process, so relax. I got a 48 on Q trainer 1, a 59 on trainer 2 and a 58 on trainer 3. The more questions you do, the better your scores will get, but the most important thing is to review the rationals of every question. Good Luck!

i got low scores on QT and Qbank. just understand the rationale and also don't take anymore QT when ur test date is approaching coz if you got low score it will affect ur confidence on taking the test. Goodluck to you...
maybe u can try 150 questions from qbank in a day.. 50 in AM, 50 in NOON, 50 in PM..
then review the rationale if you have things that u don't understand review ur books..
Pray, it's the most effective way to pass NCLEX ♥

Hello, Joe. Well, I can't tell you what the most effective way to prepare is...you have to figure that out for yourself. I'm not saying that condescendingly. As I've posted before, it's impossible to know everything. You have to trust that as a nursing school graduate you possess the knowledge to pass NCLEX.
I will say (and this is just me) that I found Kaplan to be almost useless. I scored right in the middle of what they say you need to pass NCLEX and I still failed...twice! I scored in the low 60s to low 70s on ALL 7 question trainers both times and failed at 265 & 135 before passing on the 3rd attempt with 75 questions using 2010 Davis Q&A, PDA & the IC mnemonic on this website. I even scored 66% on the preliminary test they give on the first day of the Kaplan class portion. Talk about a ******!!!
I would suggest looking at my post "long time lurker...first time poster" for (again, just MY) experience with preparing for NCLEX. If you truly feel "lost" perhaps you need to change your approach/materials/attitude. That's what I had to do in order to pass.
All the best!

Don't get yourself tied up in these predictor scores. They are not the be all and end all. Instead listen to your feelings about how well prepared you are. If you do not feel like you are near the ball park parking lot, perhaps you should consider rescheduling to give yourself more time. There is nothing wrong with that.
Thank you for replying. I am feeling pressure from my family too which is just not cool. I work full time, married with three kids and then i get home and i study but it has not been an easy road, nor should it but I will try to make sure i am ready. I am scheduled to take the exam on April 21st but I thought about giving myself another week to prepare but we'll see.
Thanks,
PS I needed to vent.
