Well I start my first job as a LPN on Nov 14 and I am very nervous!!! I graduated from a LPN program in august and took the boards in oct. I decided to take a large pay cut and work at a hospital instead of a LTC so I could get more skills and not just pass meds all day. I will be working on a ortho/step-down neuro floor with 43 beds. I am excited because I will get learn new things like starting IVs and dropping NG tubes. in my area there are three large hospitals and only one hires LPNs and I was the last one they plan on hiring for a while. any tips for me guys?? I have a 6 week orientation. the first week will be learning the computer system because all the charting is done on the computer. tips, advice, ect is welcome!!

I've never done computer charting so no tips on that..
just wanted to say GOOD LUCK!!!! New jobs are great, and I think its admirable that you want to learn new skills in the hospital setting instead of taking the larger paying job for now. Good for you :) It will make you a more rounded nurse if you ever decide to change jobs in the future.
Good luck with the new job!!!!

Congratulations! Don't be nervous! I'm in orientation and I started on my unit this week. I've been kind of nervous, but I've realized that I need to take a deep breath every once in while and keep on asking questions even if other peopel think they're stupid questions.

I will be celebrating my 1st year anniversary on Nov. 15th. I honestly can't believe I've worked a whole year. Time sure fly's by!
Good Luck to you!

Great Job Kris, I am an LPN student and I will graduate in April. Can't wait. Could you tell me how much the NCLEX-LPN costs? I keep hearing different prices 450-950. Anything I should propare myself for in the upcoming future?
The only question that is stupid is the one that is not asked. I have to constantly remind myself of that because of some of the crazy looks I get sometimes.
