My awesome last clinical day...and thank you to nurses!

I finished my last clinical day yesterday with an awesome preceptor! I graduate in May and had the opportunity to complete 14, 12+ hour clinical shifts. I had a great learning experience but a difficult learning environment, in that it was hard work and much to learn in a step down ICU environment. But I loved it and my preceptor!

I was very proud yesterday to be entering the profession of nurses and I am still proud today and I hope to always be proud to be completing my lifelong dream. I have wanted to be a nurse since I was a child, and I am about to turn 40 this summer.

Yesterday as my preceptor and I sat outside to eat a quick lunch, a family approached us and thanked us for being nurses and for all we do! :-) Later as I cared for a patient, the patients family asked if I was married, because they wanted me to marry their son, never mind I was probably 10+ years older!!! :lol2: And finally as I left at the end of a long day I ran into someone I had spoken to earlier who was interested in becoming a nurse. This person had a loved one in the hospital. We continued our conversation and she expressed an interest and thankfulness in what nurses do. So I gave her information about becoming a nurse and about becoming a PCT.

I had a fun last day and was proud of my accomplishments. I am proud that I am about to become a member of the most trusted profession! :nurse:

People may not always come right out and say thank you, but patients and their families put so much trust in you and are thankful for what you (nurses) do to care for them in their most vulnerable time!

It was very nice reading this post. :)

I have always wanted to be an RN as well finally at 26 I am taking the jump this September. RN is 4 years in Canada so it will be a long journey. I hope I get to experience something similar to what you described.
