Hello!
So I graduate in May and the next day after graduation I'm moving from Boston to Charleston! I'm interviewing at MUSC for some "Registered Nurse I" new grad positions. Does anyone know the current pay rate for new grads at MUSC or even at Roper Hospital? Are all the positions day/night rotating? How long is orientation and what does it entail? Does anyone know shift differentials?
I'd also appreciate hearing from anyone who currently works at MUSC- How do you like it? Are you appreciated as a nurse? Do you feel supported by the institution?
Thanks!! I can't wait to move!

I used to work across the Upstate in Greenville/Spartanburg, so I can't help you with MUSC info..... Charleston is beautiful though.....

Hey, I was a tech at MUSC about a year ago. I knew some New Grad RNs and I was planning on getting my BSN and asked what the pay rate and they said about 20.65 starting. It could've changed by now. But I thought I could give you something to start with.
Roper hospital's base pay for a new grad is 22.50 differentials are 2.20 for evening, 3 for nights, 4 for weekends/holidays.
I got a job offer! yay!!
At MUSC the base pay is $22 and the shift diffs are 2.75 for a weekday eve, 3.45 weekday night, 4.25 weekend day, 5.75 weekend eve, 7.25 weekend night. So the differentials are a little higher but the base pay a little lower than Roper so it evens out to be about the same.

Wow, that's not bad! Here in FLA base for a new nurse is $20 and the diffs aren't much better either. The housing costs though are totally crazy.

instead of posting your question to the ill-educated public on specific details of an organizations function, call the human resource dept. of the hospital you are applying too and ask.that way you have sound information to make logical possibly life changing decision.

Congrats! I am currently a nursing student at MUSC. Good luck on the move and if you have any questions about the area, let me know. I'd be happy to help.
Where'd you get the offer from?

live4rachel - I know you actively post a lot on here and I was wondering if you could answer some questions for me? I have a BS in international business and have been working as a pharmaceutical rep and decided to go back to school for RN. I am already signed up at Trident for my undergrad classes. I have 1 year of undergrad that I need. So, I would be applying to MUSC for fall 2010. I am so nervous about leaving my career (which I already have) to pursue my BSN. What pointers, advice do you have that can help me prepare this year to have the best possible application for MUSC? If its easier to e-mail me - I'm at [email protected] Thanks so much in advance!!
check your email :)

live4rachael- I'd love to pick your brain! I just got accepted to MUSC's Fall 09 BSN program and have scared the crap out of myself reading all the horror stories on forums about how difficult nursing school is. I thought just getting accepted was difficult! They said they had 366 applicants for 60 postions. Heavens! I worry it will be difficult for me because I am married with a 5 year old. Will I ever see my boys again? How gruelling is it, really? You can email me at [email protected] if you'd like. :)
