MUSC ABSN Spring 2015

Published

Hi everyone!!!

I wanted to go ahead and make a thread for MUSC's Spring 2015 hopefuls. I know it is a little bit early to start this thread, but I am just so excited. I am looking forward to everyone stats and encouragement for each other. Looking forward to the results!!!

So I was reading through the accelerated spring 2014 thread and saw that regular admissions folks received word of their acceptances on October 15th!!! If they are on time this year, that means that they are reviewing applications and making decisions this week and we should hear by next week! *Don't take this seriously, I'm just making an informed assumption*

I'm about to go crazy! Ready to quit my job and start packing lol!

Hey all! I am also in the waiting game right now and just found this forum. Only one more week hopefully :). When was the deadline for early applicants to give their notice of acceptance or decline? I'm really ready for those 2 pending statuses to change so we know!

A couple if questions you guys had I wanted to address and show what I copied off of the website....

"Admission is competitive. We do not practice a “waiting list.” We typically admit 80 students each fall and spring, and have approximately 300-400 applicants.

Grades are 75% of the overall admission decision-making. The cumulative GPA is weighted the heaviest, and this is all attempts at all coursework. MUSC does not have a forgiveness policy, so all attempts at all coursework is calculated into this GPA. The Admissions Committee also reviews related work or volunteer experience, military experience, references, and a short 100 word essay. No pre-admission testing is required, such as the GRE, SAT, or TEAS."

Hi! Welcome to the boards! I am not sure when the priority accept/decline deadline is/was but I hope it's by the end of this week!!

Here's an update for you all:

"Hi Shannon,

The College of Nursing Admissions Committee has not met yet.

I believe they are planning to meet next week but I'm not sure. Typically they mail letters at the end of October so you should know something soon.

I hope this helps and best of luck!"

This is from LH in admissions.

Nooooooooppoo I had hoped that they already met lol

Yeah me too...that's what I was hoping for since last year this time decisions had already been made. Welp, now we know....we can stop sitting on the edge of our seats for the next week LOL!

Also, for those that care....screen shot of the application status for today, accessible from my job:

Hey guys, I know that y'all must be pretty anxious right now. I am a 1st semester student in Joseph's cohort. If you have questions about anything I'll do my best to answer back as soon as I can. This part of the semester is crazy with med checkoffs, clinicals, projects and patho/pharm. My email is [email protected] in case you what to get in touch. Don't be too anxious about it, and just enjoy the time you have off. Congrats to all who will be joining us next semester.

My name is Andrew by the way. Someone just reminded me that I had forgotten to put my name on my previous post.

Specializes in BLS/ACLS/PALS/PEARS/NRP Instructor.

Hey Guys, I'm trying to set up some BLS courses for the incoming class; in doing so, I got to talking with Dr. Conner our Program Director. I asked him when your decisions would be made, he said the Admissions Board would meet this week and letters would go out the week of Oct 20th. This means you can anticipate your "mini" orientation for MUSC to be the second or third week of November. This orientation isn't mandatory; however, I would STRONGLY encourage EVERYONE to attend. You really do get some invaluable information.

To echo what Andrew said, your "First" semester is going to be a WHIRLWIND, but keep in mind, it's a controlled chaos. As long as you stay focused there's absolutely nothing to worry about. This ISN'T like any college you have ever been to, it's hard to explain but you'll understand once you get in the program. Our instructors are absolutely amazing and they truly want each and every one of you to succeed. Please email Andrew or myself if you have any questions, we're ALWAYS here to help!

Have a great weekend!

V/s,

Joseph
