multiple pre req fails. should i still apply?

hi all! I have completed all my pre reqs and i have a CST degree from community college of Philadelphia. I have failed chemistry and nutrition several times (more than 3 each). The reasons why dont matter now that i'm trying to move on. I have a 3.2 GPA and I haven't taken the TEAS yet. I'd really appreciate some honest advice on whether or not there's still hope of me getting into a 2 year nursing program. If anyone has a similar story, whether it ends in success or not, please share. Thanks in advance!

Tbh, if you cannot get through the prereqs without multiple fails, I doubt you will make it through nursing school. You are going to have to kill the teas to get considered for a program.

Wow way to jump to conclusions... A person could have extenuating life circumstances that allowed them to not concentrate on school and fail more than one class or a few times.

To the OP: Did you take the pre-reqs at the same college all three times? Reason i ask is because you might be able to get those past grades replaced with the newest and most recent attempt.. some schools might count it against you some schools wont it depends on the program really

while it maybe a lot harder for you to get in, there is still a chance id say.. apply anywhere and everywhere and look at private programs as well as they are a little bit more lax on their admission requirements (depending on the program)

What are the pre-reqs for your program? Do you have A's in all the other pre-reqs? A 3.2 GPA is very high imo with 6 F's on your record.

at the school i did my pre reqs and will be applying to in a couple months for the rn program they go by a point system to determine who gets in. yes they look at your transcripts but grades and fails do not factor into if you get it or not, its all by points and gpa. points for health care experiance, and having an aa or other degree, which i have. i have failed chem 2 times and finally passed on the 3rd, i failed a math class in my first semester of college, and a critical thinking course along with a&p 2. i have now retaken all these classes and passed. i plan on applying to the program and since i re did everything and got a's along with points from other requirements i will have a higher number of points then most when i turn in my application.

so what i am saying here is are the schools you are applying for go by a point system? how do they determine who gets in? find out.

in my case my fails wont really affect my chances of getting in, as long as it is passed i have points for that course, no matter the grade or number of attempts (this is at the community college i am applying to).

dont be discouraged, it gets difficult, i messed up many times due to not being used to college at first, it was a new thing but now i repaired my gpa and even volunteered at a local hospital which my school recongizes when applying for their rn program.

just keep pushing and get good grades and ace your teas.

You won't find out if it is possible to be accepted unless you apply. You can ask an advisor before applying, but that does not mean that what the advisor tells you will necessarily happen.

That's where you might be wrong, though that depends on the particular schools involved. WHY you had so many failures will be the first question anyone will have who evaluates your academic record in the. They will want to know why you failed in the first place ...and why you were unable to address your problems promptly, thereby failing repeatedly.

You may need to be able to discuss all of that with them to satisfy their legitimate need to know that you have since addressed your problems and won't continue to fail. Your ability to discuss it and reassure the admissions committee about your likelihood to succeed may make the difference whether you are accepted or not.

They count the latest grade toward the gpa but the others still show up on the transcrpt.@jt43 the pre reqs include chem 1+2, nutrition, a&p 1+2, micro, englishes, statistics, college algebra, etc. Ive taken them all. I even took biochem and aced that but turns out i dont need it. I have mostly As and Bs. I even made it into the honors society but the Fs are still on the transcript. @ nikkinicole No, it does not go by a points system. Maybe i should look into schools that do. Hopes is not lost! I did my pre-req in CCP myself. I was accepted to a nursing program when I was junior in high school when I had my interview I was asked about my Algebra 2 from hs which I had failed and had to take a summer class for ( a bit diff ) I aced the summer class and they really liked the fact that I succeed my second time so well. They just wanted to know what happen, I made sure to emphasize on how I didnt give up and wanted to succeed. I got into the program no problem.

The reason why they might be concern is because nursing school is so much harder than the pre-req and want to make sure you succeed in their program. Nursing school is tough, I had a very scary semester in OB where I actually didnt make it and had to repeat. I was very hard on myself, but I was determine to continue and prove to myself that I was capable of finishing the program. Guess what? When I returned my grades improved drastically and I was that much better in the clinical area as well. I We take ATI at the end of the nursing program to see the probability of passing the NCLEX the first time-mines? 98%, the faces on my instructors including the dean was priceless. And I passed my first time. The road was tough, but I did it.

Do not give up and if you really want to get into nursing school just rock every other class after, you can do this!

Yeah, unless they only counted the F's once for each class.

OP: I think you should try and retake some of those classes. I don't think your nursing school will let you in the program, even if your GPA is a 3.2

My local community college requires a GPA of at least 2.5, BUT all pre-reqs must be completed with a "C" or better.

@ musicEMT-- I did take them all at the same college. The Fs arent factored into my GPA anymore since they only count the latest grades and I did eventually pass them with A's and B's. My problem is that they still show up on the transcript and that's why I got rejected from two 4 year programs so I'm trying for the 2 year programs now. I'm just discouraged and feel there may not be a point.

@jp43-- Pre reqs are chem 1+2, a&p 1+2, micro, english, etc. I took them all and more. I even took biochemistry which i didnt need in an attempt to show that I am able to ace difficult courses. I even made it into the honors program. I would only be taking the core nursing classes. But those F's seem to be all they see.
