Just for clarification, in my earlier post, those amounts are MY ACTUAL rates, right down to the Zilch part. This is for PRN status. RN PRN rates are 10 bucks more per hour. Both RN and LPN rates are outlined on the same contract so that the information is readily available when we RAN (Refer A Nurse).

I live in the MidMichigan area. I have been an RN for 27 years, 19 years at my current employer. Our pay scale for RN's is about $24-$34/hr. I currently make about $29.50/hr and due for another job performance rating soon so I expect a 3% raise with that evaluation. I am only at this rate after expressing my dissatisfaction with my current pay rate for the time of service. Was give an additional 3% at that time. In my opinion with my length of service I should be at top of the scale. Our admin would say, "but then what would you have to work for?" BULL!! A yearly bonus would be nice and appropriate once you are at the top. I am a professional nurse. I am not going to slack on my duties because I am at the top of the scale and "have nothing to work for." That is insulting! But I also have a family to support and bills to pay. We deserve to be adequately compensated for our lenghth of service.

New grad RN-ADN 7 months in Midmichigan saginaw area. Started at $21.95, with $4 differential. Yesterday up to 22.19 at a hospital. Agency $30.

Base salary is about $59,000, plus OVERTIME (although I do as little as I can get away with). Then we get a geographic adjustment based on cost of living and hazard pay that adds to about $2500 more. So, total is low $60s. (That's with 20 years experience- my BSN and Masters in Adult Education do not add anything.)

:yeah:i am a seasoned nurse of 26 years, work for a rehab hospital and am earning an rn salary of 33.70/hr, which is maxed out. i live in a big metroplex in texas. there is a lot of competition here. i am happy with that since i also got benefits on day one and they do self staffing. there are problems there, just like anywhere..........there is no perfect job. but for now this one is pretty close............:redbeathe

Here are my most recent, I only do ER, I am an RN with 5 years exp:

agency #1) about 42/hr, no bennies

agency #2) about 55/hr, no bennies

travel #2) 45.00/hr with bennies and furnished 1 bed apt

all things are relative and nurses are not immune to downturns in economy etc

This may have already been posted as I didnt read the entire thread---but it doesnt really matter what any one posts because unless you live in that area of the poster it doesnt matter.

I make 27.5 an hour --yet hosp in your area may pay 22.00 an hour--are you going to pack up/buy a house and move here?? Prob not.

Some will say they make 50.00 an hour and we will ohh and ahh at that figure---yet how much is thier house payment? How much are they paying for a gallon of milk? Do they have a big yard with lots of trees or are they haveing to live in an apt?

Nursing is not, has never been a job where you "can get rich" but you can live comfortably. I can live comfortably just off my 27.75 an hour as the ones who make 19.50---prob just as comfortable as the ones who make 38.5. It depends on the location-cost of living-etc etc etc

Amen to that.... I read through the first page and thought the same thing... most of the people reporting pay didn't give any idea if they're "prn/casual/contract" or other. 40/hour isn't very lucrative 10 years down the road when you realize you didn't plan a retirement package that will net you more than 30k/year for 5 years, and have to shift into overdrive.

Another major variable that affects someone's pay rate is location. For example, an RN in San Francisco could be earning more than $40 hourly while the RN in rural South Carolina could be earning less than $18 per hour. High cost-of-living locations tend to pay healthcare workers more than the rural and low cost-of-living regions.

I'm an RN in Silicon Valley, Caliornia and I make $57.00 per hour. However, I am (a) in a critical care specialty (OR), I belong to a union (go CNA!!), and I have 12 years experience. I worked in a non-union hospital once for a mere 7 months and I swore on stacks of bibles never to do so again.

If you didn't plan for retirement then you are really in trouble. Luckily I put about $1500-$2000 a month away in my Fidelity acct. It is all in Money Market so I haven't done to bad in the market. I have been pushing my co-workers for years to put something away and some have while others haven't. That is the real reason I work so much because I know that in the long run it will hopefully pay off.

53 an hour 1 dollar extra for weekend diff. that's for 4 years exp. in an acute care hospital not inner city, which would be more, in northern Ca. New grads about 44-46 an hour. This is for union and non-union hospital around here. Overtime 11/2- 2 times rate depending on 8 or 12 hour shifts.

I live here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Before I took early retirement in Oct. 2008, as an RN in a county hospital I was earning more than $65/hr. With overtime I earned close to $130,000 in 2007.

Senior staff RNs in my former hospital are scheduled to get pay raises and per union contract, by October 2009 night staff RNs with enough seniority should be earning around $70/hr that includes the night shift differential.
