Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).
The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.
Some quick notes:
They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.
So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester
My appointment is not until May 6. If they only sent out 160 emails, and are taking 120 from those, the odds of getting accepted are pretty high??? For those of you who went to your appointment already, did the counselor give you any other info? If all my coursework was completed at Mt. SAC, I do not need to bring an official transcript, right?
I don't think that you have to bring your transcripts. check your email it addresses that info and call ---------------- if you have additional questions. I believe it is a points system so depending on the number of points and your ranking will determine whether you get in for the fall or spring. I haven't went to the appt so I am just telling you what I have been told by the counselor and read here on this site.My appointment is not until May 6. I took some coursework at Mtsac and they were able to just pull up my transcripts from there... I hope you get into the cohort that you want!
So they sent out 160 emails. 60 students for fall + 20 alternates and 60 students for spring + 20 alternates?
Pretty much! But it's all based on your ranking! So 80s are pretty much guaranteed to start fall 2014. I'm in the 70s range and was told that I would be a *possible* alternate for fall 2014 but guaranteed spring 2015. I'll take what i can get lol! When is your appointment?
Ah icic. I actually went to my appointment and verified everything. My final score is 70.5 and saw that I was right in the middle of the list. I'm pretty sure I'll be in for spring 2015 starting in February. Mtsac is not everyones first choice so I'm sure a lot of the alternates will get in as well. As far as getting in the fall semester myself, I think its slim to none. But we'll see in May!
kynzoesmommy, I tried to send you a message. I did some research and found info about a waiver for CCNE/ACEN schools that are regionally accredited.
I found the attached language in the VA Handbook. I am also in a nursing program that is not accreditated by the NLN or AACN but has been state approved and regionally accreditated.
(1)Waiver of NLNAC or CCNE Accreditation Requirement. The approving official may
authorize a waiver of the requirement for NLNAC or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing
provided the college or university has regional accreditation or was State approved at the time of thecandidate’s graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration.
Waivers at the doctoral level are not required; however, the program must be regionally accredited at thetime of the candidate’s graduation.
