Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College) 2014 apps are reopened!

Published

Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).

The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.

Some quick notes:

They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.

So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester

Thank you, my friend! :)

Hey girl!!!! So the appointment was pretty simple. They just verified my degree/ grade points and my repeats and foreign language... My point total didn't change but apparently some students points changed after verification. They said there were 160 students who received the letter that we did but not all of the 160 made appointments yet to meet with the counseling department. Apparently my point range is borderline so I am definitely in for spring and a possible alternate for fall. She said they will send out notices the weekend of May 16 because the 4-day orientation is around June 16!

Awesome news congrats! !

Thanks for posting!!!

Exactly! I was trying to post last night but my internet had problems. They are not allowed to officially let you know, however I noticed the sorted applicant list and saw I was top ten so I believe I'll be in fall class, and they said I have nothing to worry about given the points I had. That is correct about finding out 5/16ish when we will start and orientation is around the week of 6/16 and is 8hr a day for almost the whole week and is mandatory.

Very cool!! Thanks!! I'm sure I am probably at the bottom of the list (I only had 72 points or so....), but all of my transcripts and such are in order, so I'm sure my points won't change. Thanks for the update!!

Wow, congrats on being in the top 10 - that's pretty awesome! Do both semesters have orientation in June, or only fall semester? If it's lumped together, I'm sure I'll see you there! :)

There will be an orientation and June and a separate one for spring... If you are chosen as an alternate for fall you have to attend the June orientation and even if you are not picked for fall cohort and you attended the orientation as an alternate, you will still have to go to the orientation for spring... Hopefully we will be together *praying for fall*
