Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College) 2014 apps are reopened!

Published

Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).

The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.

Some quick notes:

They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.

So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester

In the second paragraph that is someone else talking. I just cut and paste the info. So, if you plan on trying to get a job at the VA you can ask for this type of waiver if you aren't going to ACEN/NLN/CCNE school.

Hey eveyone,

I've been reading your comments and I wanted to get your guys help. I got into both Rio Hondo and Mt Sac and was wondering what school is better. I have been at Mt Sac for years and I really like the school. I just want to make the right decsiosn :) plus Rio Hondo needs an answer this week school for them starts June 9th. Any feed back would help.

Thanks

I would go for the sure thing girl. You never know with Mt Sac where you stand yet. The sooner you get in, the sooner you're out and working!

Congrats. I wish I had this problem ;)

Hi. Imo Weigh the options. Which is closer, and who has best nclex rates and which school seems like a good fit and has resources for additional help. You can always say yes and if Mt. Sac offers you a spot then you can tell Rio, you deny the position

kynzo, having a problem sending you messages. I will just start posting them.

Hi guys! I went to my appointment. No new news from my end, though I did see where I'm at on the list - I'm #76, with 72 points. I felt so bad that I don't know any of your real names, so I couldn't see where you all were in comparison! She pretty much handed me the list to look at, lol. I also need to get a letter from a previous school and turn that in right away...just another hurdle, lol. Other than that, I'm in! She said I'll most likely have to attend fall orientation, but that I'm on the border as they only accept 60 per semester. She said she had high hopes for me to get in for fall, but no guarantees. So there's that! The counselors are incredibly nice at Mt. SAC. My goodness, what a change from my current school. I love the campus. I got there early to explore, but it was so hot that I ended up sitting at a table in the student services center. :)

Good luck to you all, and please keep us posted if there's any news from anybody else! :)

Hello I also got accepted at Rio hondo and I'm waiting to hear from mount sac. I went to my counceling app and she said I'm most likely in for Fall semester because I'm number 56. Hopefully nothing changes. But i was in the same boat if I should go to mount sac or Rio. Rio has a better Nclex score for 2012-2013 but mount sac is closer to me. Are you going to the orientation may 8th?

I'm pretty dang happy!! Either way, I'm in, as long as I call tomorrow and get this letter. SO HAPPY!!! And I'm really thankful for all the support that everybody has given out during this long wait! Best wishes to you all!

Hi. You should not look at just one year for the NCLEX results. You should look at the past 5 years and you should look at how many students enter the program and how many actually graduate. I have seen good things on this site about both schools. Good luck to you and make a decision that is right for you and your family.

Rio told me to let them know no later then Friday morning :-/

but can't we just go to the orientation and resign our position after if we end up not choosing Rio Hondo? They can give the position to an alternate.
