Mt. SAC application for spring 2016

Published

Hi everyone !!! After 5 years I finally decided to pick up where I left off. Time to apply for nursing school :D

Application period is July 1st - September 1st. I'm coming in with 54 points pre-HESI. Just wanted to wish anyone else out there applying to Mt. SAC good luck with the HESI tomorrow ;)

I have yet to see a thread on this particular application period for Mt. SAC so I hope many more join this thread as we proceed with this tedious journey.

I totally understand Lisa ! Okay thank you Ill do that ;)

Not sure why there are two pics but okay lol

Natalie have you figured out where your going yet ?

Not yet...I have pre-registration with LA County tomorrow so I am hoping I get the information I need in order to make a decision. I'm really torn 3

I know exactly how you feel :banghead:

It's so hard! I am so thankful to even be in the position to choose a school instead of not being accepted anywhere, but it sucks! What are you basing your decision on?

I'm having the same dilemma. Trying to find information such as faculty to student ratios and resources. I actually havent taken classes at Mt sac other than for CNA so I would love anyone's take on the resources they have.

Here is everything I have figured out about Mt Sac...

Clinical sizes are 10 people each, which is a GREAT student to teacher ratio.

Pharmacology is freaking INSANE and looks to be 6 hours every monday with a break in the middle, however you only take the class once during the beginning of your program. My other school has 1 hour per monday except you take it every semester. (I would think this would be preferable since you are likely to forget info after 2 years)

The Orientation is CRAZY long. Other schools have 1 day for orientation.

The clinical sites are very spread out and somewhat accommodating if you don't live near the school.

This is only an assumption, but I had to get a crazy and in-depth physical for the CNA program here. I can only imagine it is just as intense. Most doctors can't even understand the form and it costs upwards of $400 if you pay without insurance.

Nclex Pass rate is roughly 85% which has been trending upwards, with this past year having a larger number of test takers. 105 up from 93 the year prior and 92 the year before that.

I have been going back and forth interviewing (yep interviewing ) mt sac nurses (2) in our maternal and child depts that I know of and tons of RCC ones that I know of. But to be fair RCC is literally 10 min away so of course RCC students look for employment around these parts whereas mt sac students would likely be more prevalent around their clinical sites and school. Although the mt sac nurses have absolutely no complaints about the program, the RCC students ramp it up when I ask about their program and they go on and on about how amazing it is and the reputation and how most of them have got their jobs over someone with a BSN because Employers saw RCC graduate on their resume. The program is really recognized around these inland empire hospitals from what I'm researching. NCLEX passing rates for first timers in the 90s. Their school of nursing is the jewel of RCC.

BUT overall school experience mt sac has RCC beat. They are just so organized and helpful it's great to know step by step exactly what needs to be done and as a mother I can surely appreciate the help. Being on the mt sac campus for the few times I have visited was wonderful. The people were so nice and helpful when I would ask for directions. The surrounding mt sac areas looked safe and clean (sounds weird to look at that but being that I'm 45 min away w/o traffic I need to look for study places or places to veg out if needed lol)

nooooow the RCC campus experience..... Yea the parking is insane especially with much younger students who may not be as catious behind the wheel as needed... Well one hit my car when I went to the work shop . Didn't even look back just rammed into it! And the workshop itself was filled with a much younger crowd which to me looked like they were about to be in for a rude awakening in this program. And I'm sure every student is different but I dunno I just didn't get the same feel good experience I have been getting with mt sac. Not as welcoming for sure.

and that's where I'm at. :nailbiting:

But nevertheless grateful for mt sacs acceptance !

Rcc Won't let me know til December maybe second week so heck maybe I'm not in and all this worrying going back in forth is for nothing lol I'm stuck between 2 lovers lmao my heart wants me to go with mt sac while my brain wants me to pick RCC if they accept me.

I'm about to send MtSAC an email declining my spot. I can't bring myself to do it lol so I came on here instead. I went to MtSAC for all my prereqs and got an AS there for something else. I love that school. While I don't have a lot of information about how nursing school is I do know the school has tons of places to study, and parking right by the nursing school was always available but I did always have classes at night. Not sure how parking will be during the day. Since I think class starts at 7 AM there shouldn't be any issue with parking. I never had an issue with parking once I figured out there were so many lots and yes some are far. I had great experiences with financial aid, student services, counselors and everywhere. I will surely miss that school.

LA County also had 10 students in clinicals not sure if that's the common number. They also have 4 day orientation. Everything seems similar between the two schools. Anyway, good luck you guys. I'm gonna send that email now...or maybe later tonight or tomorrow.
