MSU Denver ANO 2019 Spring start

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi! I'm going to move to Colorado at the end of the year and I'm finishing my application for the Accelerated program at MSU Denver.

Anybody else is applying too?

Hello!

I actually did apply and am just waiting to hear back on my credits. I'm currently in IL at another accelerated program, but I'm thinking about transferring. It depends on if they accept my credits!

Hi There!

I am applying in just a few weeks (when Patho class is over). I'm already biting my nails and I have yet to turn in the application. I had a couple of pre-req's to complete and then I'll be ready.

Good luck!

Hi! I'll be applying for this cycle as well! My first degree (in Biology) is from Metro and I absolutely loved going to school there. I just need to take the HESI entrance exam and have my employer sign off on my healthcare experience. Would anyone be interested in sharing their cumulative score for the admissions criteria and HESI? I checked out a previous thread from the 2018 cohort and it looks like most of the students that were accepted got at least a 13/15. Once I take my HESI, I'll let you all know what my score is. Good luck to all of you! I hope we all get in!

Nice! I'm still waiting to be admitted into MSU. My expectations are low, I don't have healthcare experience so I can only get 10 of the 15 points. My chances are really bad...

Just submitted my app - I'll have 12/15 with a 4.0 and 96 HESI. Unfortunately, I anticipate a rather long wait based on previous year's forums...but if I get anything back, I'll keep everyone posted!

Hey Colocrane,

That's really good! I hope you get in! I'm taking the HESI next week, any advice?

I'm really thinking on not taking Patho on the fall, because of my chances of getting into the MSU program with a 10/15 are really slim...

;)Hey Minaya! Do you think the HESI will give you an extra point or so? I did not study much for the HESI...however, I'm generally a pretty good test taker. I guess my advice would be to 'study'...but don't overdo it. Since you only have to take the Math and Reading Comprehension (? maybe called something else?) - make sure you understand the basis of 'ratio proportion' that they use in clinical calculations. I got a book called, "HESI: A2 Study Guide 2018 & 2019". I believe the publisher is simply: Test Prep Books. It's cherry-red on half the cover - the other half is a scrub-top blue with a stethoscope. It was plenty of information to make sure that I could remember all the math skills. Now, the more difficult piece (in my estimation) is the reading comprehension. I would go over that section several times, in whatever study guide you get/have. Find all the sample tests that you can just to gain familiarity with the types of questions they ask. The study guide should have some information on how to arrive at a particular answer for each of the different types of problems. While this information is certainly boring - it's well worth your time.

Don't overthink it!! Just get it done and best of luck! Regarding Patho - I have plenty of thoughts on that, too ;) but I won't bore you with the details unless you need them! I would probably sign up and take it just to get it over with, frankly. I assume you'll have to take it at some point anyway?

Let us know how you do!!!

Hey! Thank you for your tips, although I didn't have much time to study.

I took it this morning and got a 98 on both sections! So I'm really happy with my scores.

Although still thinking if I should take patho or not, it messes up my schedule (taking A&P II and microbiology on Fall while working full time) and I only need it to apply to MSU, the other colleges don't ask for it (even one they indicate that I will need to retake it). I only have 10 out of the 15 points of the ranking criteria so I don't believe I have a chance to get in.

I know I shouldn't quit but my personal circumstances are putting me on a lot of stress so not taking 3 credits on fall it would help a lot.

That's outstanding - so well done on your HESI!! Congrats!

I didn't realize that MSU was the only program you were looking at that required Patho. In that case - I'd definitely put it off until another time. The fact is, it sounds like you'll have plenty on your plate and should you find that you need it for future, there is always time to take it. Mine was a quick 10 week program that was all on-line and it flew by!

When I spoke to the admissions person at Metro, I was 'encouraged' to come up with at least 12 points. But as you know, it completely depends on the year and the pool of applicants for that cycle so I don't want to discourage you in the slightest!

Wish I had some more tangible advice to offer!

Just submitted my application! YAY! I'll have a 15/15 with a 95% on the HESI. Now we wait...

Hi everyone!

I just submitted my application a few days ago. I didn't graduate from Metro so I automatically lost 2 points there. I luckily have all the required work experience and have a CNA license which will help out. I believe from my calculations I should come out with a 12/15 and have a HESI score of 99%

Now to play the waiting game! Ugh :/

What other schools are you all thinking of applying to besides Metro?
