MSN - which degree is right for a school nurse?

Published

Hello!

I am a school nurse looking to pursue a MSN. I am planning to stick with school nursing for the long haul. Any insight or thoughts on which masters degree would be appropriate for school nursing? Pros and cons? Personal experiences?

Any and all input is welcome! Thank you in advance!

I got an MS in Health Care Administration. It has been very beneficial to my practice. Ethics, project management, managerial accounting (think budget and planning) strategic planning etc were some of the 9 -  4 credit classes (all on line) that I took.

I'd go the MSN in Community/Public Health route if I were to go back...

There are a few programs around the country that are MSN in school nursing.  I tend to agree with Jedrnurse that public health is a good pick.  I am currently doing mine in emergency management.

Education or Management unless you hope to go further later in the clinical setting.

it's interesting and because it's such an emerging field, there's so much really recent info.
