Hello,

I recently have been looking into MSN courses and have stumbled upon a couple that are online. I am wondering what your thoughts about online MSN courses are. Has anyone ever taken an online MSN courses? Please fill me in on your experiences.

I just started classes at Walden and they are taking up a lot of my time. Hoping as I get more familiar with the technology it improves for me.

Depends on your degree. I'm 34 credits into Excelsior MSN education and love it. It is cheap, convenient, and an excellent program.

I am currently enrolled at University of Central Florida's MSN (educator track), and anticipate graduation next semester. The program is online, however for a Health Assessment class I had to go to campus for the lab. I highly recommend it and have been very pleased with it.

It's a state school, and therefore much less expensive than Walden, U of Phoenix, or other online programs. I take 6 credit hours per semester which costs about 2K per semester - much less expensive than other online schools.

My program has an excellent reputation in the community, which was another consideration for me. Online classes are convenient, but not any easier. Like I said, I'm very happy with it.

Be careful. Make sure you have an idea how you want to use your MSN before you choose the school. For instance, some commercial (investor owned) schools are not regarded very highly if you want to move into teaching. Anyone who is serious about a career in teaching should seek an education in a scholarly environment - that promotes faculty development & research.

Don't confuse the method of delivery (online versus classroom) with the quality of the instruction. Most bricks-and-mortar schools now have online options. They employ professional faculty rather than temporary contract instructors. They are more well regarded by the profession. They are less expensive. They may have fellowship or other financial support that is not offered by commercial schools. Your diploma will look exactly like other graduates of the program. . . . just my .02
