Hey everyone,
Is anyone applying to Mount St. Mary's ABSN program for Spring 2012? I was thinking about applying to the ADN program, but I talked with one of the advisors on the Doheny campus and she told me to look into the ABSN program since I already have a bachelor's degree. However, I'm a little concerned with my low GPA that I've received from my undergraduate bachelor's degree. She told me to keep taking classes to raise my GPA, but I have way too many credits from my last degree and I don't think it'll go up any higher no matter how many classes I take. I currently have A's & B's in my prereq's...
Is anyone in the same situation as I am??? Or for any of those that got into the ABSN program have a low cumulative GPA?
It took me about 4 months to get it done, but I also was taking other courses. If you are able to set aside a couple months to bust it out, it is definitely do-able! It was an interesting course, and I enjoyed it, however, it is important to answer the scenarios as the way the professor wants to hear it, and quite religiously based. If you have a strong Christian background, I think that the course would be easier, but it is also do-able without having a Christian background (I do not have a strong Christian background, so sometimes it was difficult for me to answer as the professor would like, but I was able to do alright in the end). If you have the time for the course the assignments are pretty easy and interesting, and there are no tests, but there is a final research paper (8 pages).
I took the Taylor Bioethics course in about 6 weeks while working full-time. Sounds like the class has changed from when I took it about 1 1/2 years ago. It used to consist of 5 papers, with the last one being 30 pages. I have no Christian background and still managed an A-. As long as you complete the class by first day of classes you are good.
Also, I was in August 2011 ABSN class and the 2nd semester has 18 units + the bioethics. The 2nd semester was also the hardest and most jam-packed of assignments, so if you can get the bioethics out of the way, do it.
I graduated in August, took NCLEX in October and have been unemployed ever since.
However, I learned a lot from the first go around and am just starting the second wave of applications and hopefully will land a job soon. I have an interview tomorrow with the county for Public Health Nurse.
As far as paying for it all, I got about $12,000 through FedLoan, both subsidized and unsub, and the rest was through Wells Fargo. Total was $70k. Good thing I had good credit and no mortgage. I also had some money put away and during winter break the class and I went to Price Is Right and I did really well. , so that has paid for my bills since I got out of school.

Okay, just got packet from MSMC with a load of stuff to do prior to the start of school on May 7th. Math test, drug screening, uniforms, immunizations, physical, orientation on the 30th and the 1st, etc.
Trulyours, it is highly recommended to have all your pre-req done. If you are applying for the fall 2012 (due March), have everything done by the end of this spring term. Interviews and acceptance letters are done during the summer so taking summer school is really out of the question because your grades and transcript will not be out in time and they will have a pool of applicants to choose from who will have everything completed if offered an interview and upon accptance. If applying for summer 2013 (due Nov), have everything done by the end of the fall term. Same reasoning, interviews and acceptance letters are done and given during the spring term, so courses in progress during the spring term will reduce your chances of getting in.
