Published

Hello---I am a current ASN student in Indianapolis, IN and I am finishing my last year starting in August Grad date May 2012! Yeah! ok soo....almost immediately after graduation my family is moving to Dallas, TX area. I am going to take my NCLEX her in Indiana for Texas license (which is nice i just found out that you can do that!)--BUT my question is can I start applying in advance for nursing positions or should i wait until we are located in Dallas...I am needing to get to work immediately when we move....but want to be proactive in putting in resumes prior to moving...ANY SUGGESTIONS!?!?

You should have started applying awhile ago! Get on it now.

Definately start putting in applications before you move down there. I recommend starting to fill out applications about two months before you graduate and move. A lot of hospitals take several weeks at least to sort through applications and start the hiring process. It's not unheard of to apply for a job a few months before an interview. It's much easier to send out applications starting early and to keep applying as the graduate date grows closer. Just specify your graduate date, NCLEX date and available start date.

However, you should have some money set aside in case you get called for an interview before you graduate. Ask for a phone interview first and if they want to see you after that, be willing to go down to TX for an interview.

I was in the same boat you are. I graduate on Friday :yeah::yeah::yeah: and am moving to from Maine to N.J. I started applying for jobs in March and was hired in April. It's a huge stress relief to have that job lined up.
