Hello, I'm a 28 yr. old Afro-American and I will be moving from Detroit, Mi to Indiana. I will like to know what is a good Suburb to move to, You know somewhere quiet, a nice place to raise my kids, and a really good school system, but not to far from the night life when I want to go hanging out. What is the average starting pay for nurses and could you also recommend a good hospital to apply to. In Detroit nurses starting pay is between $19-$22 bucks an hour.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!
Thank-you

What part of Indiana will you be moving to? I've lived in northern IN (around Chicago), central (between Indianapolis & Bloomington), and my current residence is across the Ohio (south of southern IN), so I might be able to give you a couple ideas.
Good luck with your move!

If you are moving to the Indianapolis area, I can recommend Fishers (just northeast of Indy), Franklin Township (southeast marion county/indy), the mooresville area (growing VERY fast, just southwest of Indy), and the old standyby of Greenwood/Southport, south of Indianapolis. Hope this helps.

I am also moving to Indiana soon, specifically the Evansville area. I don't know what part of Indiana you are looking at but I wish you the best of luck with your move. I'm also trying to find more info. about average nursing salaries & good hospitals to work at, as well as community info. such as good schools & good neighborhoods for families.

I don't know about pay, I'm a student.
Greenwood/southside of Indy is nice, but getting very crowded. I say southwest of Indy, Mooresville/Camby area. It's growing, but still nice and quiet. It's 19 miles southwest of Indianapolis, where there is plenty to do at night, and there are good school systems also. Some good hospitals around here: http://www.clarian.org (Methodist, IU, Riley), http://www.ecommunity.com (Community hospitals), and http://www.stfrancis-indy.org. Good luck.

Where in Indiana are you planning on moving? If money is a concern I would recomend to stay away from knox county (Southern Indiana, Vincennes area) I'm a CNA / QMA but I know when I worked in Vincennes the nurses I worked with were always complaining about the pay. Said good sam hospital (Vincenness, only Hospital in knox county) Didnt pay nearly what most hostials payed. Iv also heard the same complaints about the hosital in Green County. Cant remember the name, but its in linton indiana. My aunt lived in knox county and worked a 3 12 hour shifts at a hospital in Indy , and they payed for all her transportation and lodging needs. She loved it... said she made more money doing that than she had ever made. Well I hope I helped a little bit.... MY advice... Stay away from knox county. They underpay everyone......

I agree with this post. I currently live in the South of Greenwood area and it is busy and hectic. When I get out of school, we are hoping to build somewhere a little more quiet - even if it means a drive. However, the area mentioned above is growing, but somehow maintains the smaller community feel. The hospitals listed are where I will be looking when I graduate :)
Good luck to you!! Welcome to Indiana :)

I absolutely agree with this statement. I grew up in Vincennes. I got my LPN education there. The pay is rediculous, especially when you can drive 45-60 min to get better pay. I acutally took a weekend job in Louisville one time, and they paid me almost 3 times what I would've made in Vincennes! Good luck with finding what your looking for! :)
