For those with questions regarding convictions
If you read a few of my post you will see that I have a felony conviction and I was very concerned about whether or not I was going to be able to obtain my nursing license. I graduated in December 04. I submitted my application to the board of nursing. I was open and honest from the beginning to the end about what had happened. I received my ATT and am happy to say that I am now officially a professional registered nurse. However, I am having a hard time finding employment but I will not get discouraged. I have no restrictions or probationary periods on my license. The purpose of my thread is to all who have records, do not lie to the board be very honest about what happened and what you have done to better your self and what you have learned from your mistakes and maybe you will be able to sit for your exam. Please do not get discouraged and do not let any one else discourage you either.

Took Nclex
Hello, to all I took NCLEX this past Thursday and I had 75 questions. I just about passed out when teh computer shut off because I feel in my heart that I was not doing well at all and I wanted a chance to prove myself. I know for sure I got 5 questions right. I had 6 or 7 select all that apply, a fill in the blank, and who would you see first type questions. I know that I failed and I feel like a complete failure, but I can test again in 45 days so I guess that is a good thing. I dont know what happened I was scoring 65-73% on the Kaplan when I got into that testing center I just started to panic, and I coouldnt get relaxed.

help for these questions
Well in the second questions, I would think the answer is correct because the nurse has to assess before she does anything else, and if she was to just cover both eyes then she is taking action before assuring that there is a problem. In the first question, I dont get that answer either, why would you as a psyche patient to give you there name before passing them medication, they can give somebody else's name. I need clarifying on that too.

To those who have lots of NCLEX materials...
I graduated 12/17/04. I started studying exactly on Jan 27, 2005. I Have Saunderes, mosby, lippincott, Kaplan 2004-2005, and also the kaplan review cd from the review class. And what I am doing is using the saunders cd which has 17 sections and I do a section a day which consist of a 10 question quiz, then a study that ranges from 91- 409 questions, and then the exam which is a 100 questions, after i complete the 17 sections then I am going to spend 2 weeks using the mosby review cd, 1 week reviewing the lippincott cd, 1 week doing the kaplan review cd, and then 4 days prior to my test I will review the major systems ( renal, resp, cardiac, neuro, meds) and then I am not going to do nothing that last day but have a good time and relax because I will test teh following. However what I like most in saunders on the cd is the fundamentals review it has 409 study questions, ranging from what would you do first, who will you see first, testing on lab values, meds, the whole shabang! When I leave the house I take with me the mosby assett booklet and just review the questions from that when ever I have a minute. Good luck to everyone!!

Should BON be harsher on apps with prior record or nurses who commit a crime
I have read and posted a thread on if someone with a felony can be licensed as a nurse. I know some states strictly prohibit it and others look at it on a case by case basis. What I am trying to get at is if someone with a criminal record have the sense to apply and complete nursing school with out a problem that is justifiable reason to say they are trying to get there life together and should maybe given that chance. On the other hand you have nurses with their licenses and knows what it means to have a license but then they still get in trouble. I have an example a Registered nurse was convicted of felonious assault and failed to notify the boards of the conviction was sentenced to 2 years probation and some fines and her license was placed on probation and then you have someone with a past felony record and is denied licensure. I just wanted to see what is every one opinion on the issue. Any replies would be appreciated.

question for all with any charges from past
i JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT IT IS POSSIBLE AND HAS BEEN DONE, A PERSON CAN GET A NURSING LICENSE WITH A FELONY IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE CHARGE AND THE STATE THAT YOU ARE IN. IT IS SEVERAL NURSES WHO DID NOT HAVE FELONIES PRIOR TO GETTING A LICENSE AND HAVE COMMITTED FELONIES WHILE THEY HAD THER'RE LICENSE SUCH AS STEALING DRUGS AND WERE ABLE TO KEEP THY'RE LICENSE. I DON'T SEE WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE. I THINK THAT IF YOU HAD A FELONY PRIOR AND HAD MADE CHANGES IN YOUR LIFE ( OBVIOUSLY YOU HAD TO IN ORDER TO ENTER AND COMPLETE NURSING SCHOOL) THEN A PERSON SHOULD BE GIVEN THAT CHANCE WHAT IS AND SHOULD BE QUESTIONABLE IS IF YOU OBTAIN A FELONY WHILE ALREADY HAVING A NURSING LICENSE THEN THAT IS WHERE MORAL SHOULD COME IN AT. i WISH EVERYONE THE BEST OF LUCK IN ACHIEVING THERE GOALS.

To background check or not????
I believe it should depend on the type of felony the person has committed because anything can become a felony. If it is a violent crime then I believe it should raise a few eyebrows, but if the person has rehabilitated themselves I do believe they should be given a second chance. I know that people with black marks on theor criminal records are not even looked upon as being a worthy employee and therefore is not even considered for a job even though they are well qualified. I know that people make mistakes. If it is related directly to the position they are applying for then no, such as a child molester or rapist working with children. Embezzlement then no you should not be dealing with money an so forth. QUOTE=gabym25]HI I AM A NURSING STUDENT, SENIOR, 10 WKS LEFT, I AM DOING A DEBATE IN CLASS IN TWO WEEKS AND WOULD LIKE TO GET A GENERAL NURSING VIEW ON WHETHER OR NOT THEY SHOULD BACKGROUND CHECK YOU AND HOW FAR DO YOU THINK THEY SHOULD BE GOING BACK, SUCH AS A JUVENILE RECORD. THANK YOU EVERYONE WHO REPLYS OR READS THIS :rotfl:

Background Checks
I am from Michigan. In May 2002 I violated a personal protection order by having unconsented phone contact with an individual, no acts of violence also an isolated incidence ( arguing over a guy). I pled guilty sentencing was post poned due to my pregnancy. I was sentence to probation for 5 years. I'm on non-reporting probation. My probation officer gives me the highest praise and will write the board on my be-half. I also have several classmates who are now nurses that will write the board on my behalf. My probation officer is also enetering an early discharge for me. Anyway I started the nursing program in 2002 and will graduate this semester. The charge is stalking which is a felony. I am so freaking nervous and stressed out because this is my livlihood for myself and my children. I dont know if I will be able to obtain a nursing license. I know I've made a mistake, which the mistake was an event in my life not who I am. I have learned from this situation and has move forward in my life trying to better myself. I pray to god every day that I am given the chance. For F.Y.I have not been in any trouble since it only took 1 time to make me a believer. If anyone out there has any information that can help me address the board or have known of someone to obtain their license in MI or in other state ( I want to relocate) it will be very helpful also words of encouragement would be appreciated because I am very down and out right now. Thank you for your time!!
