Allen and McKinney are upper-crust, pricey, ritzy suburbs. Since they are located in close proxomity to the upper middle class exurban boomtowns of Plano and Frisco, the development craze is spilling over into Allen and McKinney. I don't have any useful info on Presby Hospital.

PARTS of Allen and McKinney are that way - however, there are certainly very affordable places to live out there too! And lots of them.
Wouldn't live in Anna for my own personal reasons - but that has to do with the stupidity of a bicycle ban.
Presby is a Texas Health Resources facility - I have friends who work at other THR hospitals who are very happy - great bennies, pay, work environment and tuition reimbursement for themselves and their dependants. I would bet the same applies there.
Oh and the schools are good in Allen and McKinney.

You can get a lot more house and more upgrades for much less money in Anna; however you have to drive to Mckinney (and deal with Mckinney traffic)to pretty much do any shopping/errands because the only things in Anna are truck stops and liquer stores pretty much! (Lots of mice and black widow spiders, too) I still can't seem to get the mice out of my house, I'm afraid they are just here to stay. I don't know much about the presby hospital system, but I know med center of mckinney is expanding right now, and I have been there before as a patient and really liked it. The whole Dallas area in general (as compared like to Austin or Houston) does have a reputation for being a bit "snobby" and very appearance/material-things oriented, but not every neighborhood is like that. You wouldn't have to worry about that AT ALL in Anna! But you would see that personality more in Mckinney/Plano/Allen. Home prices in those areas though have really gone up over the past few years, which is why some people like the idea of moving north. Melissa is a small city just north of Mckinney, just south of Anna that I think is nice. There are some nice homes and they even have a city provided trashcans/recycling services that Anna does not provide. And the city of Melissa has a school district and seems to want to build resources (shopping centers) more quickly than Anna.

Just for the record...there are several of us that don't fit the stereotype of the snobby, upper-crusty Collin County resident!

I'm moving to Allen, but staying at my downtown job for now. We'll see how the commute is.
Does anyone know about Medical Center of McKinney?

My husband and I lived in McKinney on the border of Allen and McKinney very near the 121 & 75 intersection until last July when we moved to NC. We LOVED everything about living there, but hated the commute. We both worked in Richardson and it took us about 45 minutes in 8am traffic on a very good day and about 70 minutes on a bad day. There are lots of side streets besides 75 to get you around snarls & jams. That being said travel during off-peak times was pretty good; it only took us about 15 minutes to get to Richardson and then another 15 to get downtown.
I remember passing a McKinney Regional billboard everyday that read, "Nursing is your life's work, not commuting." I also remember seeing ads for sign-on bonus for certain specialty areas. In a few years when we move back to TX we are planning on moving back to the same area.
Also, just a little tidbit FYI the town of Melissa is where the Collin County landfill is located so you may not want to live in that area b/c the air is quite smelly in the hot TX summers.

I live in Allen and I have worked at Presby of Allen hospital. It is a very nice place to work and they pay as well as the bigger hospitals in Dallas. I worked in PACU and had to take too much call. That is the only reason that I left. Feel free to send me a personal email if you have any other questions. Just my opinion, but I would steer clear of Med. Center of Mckinney.

I'm a little offended and appauled by some of the comments about Plano/Allen/McKinney. I was born and raised in Plano and wouldn't consider myself nor my family/friends "snobby". Sure you are going to have some, but let's be honest, you have there wherever you live!! There will always be "those" people.
I haven't heard any negative things about Presby Allen, but I might avoid Med Center of McKinney as well. It seems to be a source of a lot of drama (shootings....all domestic). In addition, I've had to take my Mother there several times (she lives in McKinney) and found that the nursing staff seemed absolutely miserable. This was on more than one occasion! Even if you live in McKinney, you can always drive to Frisco/Plano (small commute but may be worth it).
I couldn't help it...I was taking report on a transfer from Medical Center of McKinney, and I thought of this board and asked her if she liked it there. She actually had good stuff to say, so I dunno.
