Hey Everyone,
I thought I would start a page for the fall 2019 cohort Mount Sinai. Looking forward to hearing all your thoughts. I applied just recently. I’m waiting to hear back. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Best,

All of the schools mentioned generally required a 3.2 GPA and up; However all look at candidates holistically. Mount Sinai Beth Israel PSON has had a ADN Nursing program for years and is very respected. Downstate like PSON has a hospital associated with its academics so that is always a plus. While PSON will be starting their 5 cohort for their Accelerated BSN option this fall, their ADN nursing program ran for years with great outcomes. I would encourage you to check out the NY State office of Professions as this will give you data on NCLEX pass rates for all of the schools here in NYC you may be looking at for the best reflection of "prestigious" education.
Here is the link for their ADN outcomes dating back to 2008.

*NCLEX pass rates for the ABSN is limited but I was told by the school the first class was 84%. Good Luck.
thanks for all the stats

After working there and talking to the nurses, many nurses hired at this hospital are Mount Sinai graduates. There is much pride if you graduated from this institution. Most of the alumni have went on to become floor nurses, managers, and specialized nurses such as NP. It’s really motivating to hear to see such strong alumni base.
The list of schools you mentioned are most fully academic institutions that serve other majors and interests. It may not be a fair comparison to a place like Mount Sinai which specializes in medicine and nursing as a medical institution. Though, I will say CUNY and SUNY schools do stand a fair chance if you would like more of an inexpensive price tag. The price for their nursing program should be manageable and less expensive than Mount Sinai. I thought about NYU, BUT A BIG DETERRENT WAS THE EXPENSIVE TUITION. I don’t think NYU price tag was worth it especially when getting a BSN. NYU nursing tuition is someone’s graduate school cost!! Nonetheless, I bet they are great schools similar to Mount Sinai. It’s just you may need to determine what’s your priority. Is it tuition cost, prestige, NCLEX pass success rate, etc. ? Regardless, this is simple my take on your question.
Hope this helps!
Fatima
Thanks Fatima- primarily I was just interested in knowing that Mount Sinai's ABSN program does hold weight when applying for jobs, NP school and that they properly prepare students or the NCLEX- from everyone's responses on this forum, as well as speaking to others, it seems very promising.
Leah and Fatima- you're both starting Mount Sinai ABSN fall 2019 right?

No problem. Sorry I couldn’t be of help. I am trying to find someone who has done the ABSN program. It would clarify some the questions you have. Hopefully we find a student to speak with.
Yup definitely Fall 2019.

Yes! And I have a number of a student who graduated. I will be speaking with her hopefully sometime this week. If any of you have questions for me to ask her, I will be happy to. If you post the questions on this forum, I will ask her and post her answers once I speak to her.

Thanks so much Leah,
thought of a few questions if you don't mind
1. How prestigious is the program compared to other top programs such as downstate, hunter, nyu...?
2. Do the professors adequately prepare you for the NCLEX exam? Were the classes stimulating and interesting?
3. Were the clinical locations helpful in hands on experience?
4. How quickly did you get your first job after? Where? and what specialty?(ER, Peds, NICU, ICU...)
5. Were the professors there for you outside of class and for recommendations and so forth? Is the school organized?
6. Did you or someone you know from your year apply to NP programs and if so how was the experience coming out of mount sinai?
7. What was the general weekly schedule like? What days hrs were the classes and clinicals?
8. How flexible are the professors with makeups if you miss an exam or a clinical for a religious holiday or sick day?
9. What were the top three things you can say about Mount Sinai? (Also what year were you in the program?)
10. Is it possible to juggle other things while being in the ABSN program- such as having a job, getting married or having a child? Were there people who had any of these things happen to them your year and if so were they able to successful balance their responsibilities?
11. Would you recommend the program to your family and friends or do you feel you would have done better elsewhere after speaking to friends colleges who completed other programs?

Great questions! I will do my best to get answers to them all!

Hopefully they’ll send us a schedule soon...I still need to take nutrition..thinking of registering through portage learning. Has anyone taken or will be taking a class through that site?
Hello ysh!!
This is actually the only school I applied to because the tuition cost isn’t as expensive as other schools....I considered applying to SUNY but it didn’t work out for me...also I heard it’s pretty diverse which I appreciate in any environment and because it’s part of Mount Sinai hospital finding a job after the program probably won’t be so difficult. Other than that we are on the same boat. ?
Hello!
So far I placed my deposit for the program. Also I’m browsing around for financial support to sponsor the cost of the program until financial aid is released.
The program probably may start around the 20 something of August after per-immersion. Ms. Maria Gallo stated to me in person the pre-immersion will be mostly online. They have us scheduled to come to the school only once during the pre-immersion portion of the program.
Hope to get more info. Hope this helps.
Fatima
Thanks for your reply!! I’m trying to google search random scholarships but they all them so specific and it doesn’t look like I quality for them:/ Let me know if you get any additional info about the program; really appreciate it! Thanks?
