Hi, I've created a forum for all prospective students for the Fall 2024 ABSN applicant pool at Mount Saint Marys University. The most recent forum I've seen are from students applying to the Summer 24' ABSN MSMU program. Feel free to submit questions and updates on the application process ? My application is currently "under review"
@Futurenurse2023. How do you like the program and it being fast paced and all? In your cohort, did any ppl drop or get kicked out of the program?
@Futurenurse2023. Can you please tell us about what your first semester was like in terms of what the classes/class schedule was and what clinicals you had? And also if you have any study tips/how many hours a week you typically spend studying? And then lastly if there are any kind of "must haves" you think we should buy for class and clinical? Thank you so so much!! This is so appreciated, we're all so curious and excited.

Yes, I do! When you first start it seems very overwhelming due to getting into the groove of the program itself. In my cohort, I believe about 4-5 people have been dropped and around 8 individuals need to retake a course (Mental Health) with the Summer 2024 cohort coming in.

The first semester is a lot you have classes 3-4 times a week which can be a 7 am-3 pm class or an 8-12 and 2 clinical rotations which are from 6:30 am-3:30 pm without accounting travel time. I know the current class that just came in the Summer 2024 cohort a lot of people dropped out within the first week because it is very overwhelming since you have tests almost every single week until finals week. Study tips are honestly forming study groups and study guides with these individuals. My cohort everyone has had their study group since the first session and we are about to be in our last session in 3 weeks! Honestly, I do not recall how many hours I would study outside of class but I did take my notes everywhere including dinner. Must haves for clinical I would say is a clinical board you can find on Amazon just because you don't always have a desk or space at the nursing station.

Also for class you will be required to buy something called Sherpath or Davis360 and pleasseee only buy it if its included in your grade. It's very expensive like my first semester (first 2 sessions) the books and materials for the classes were about 1k-1.5k so be prepared for that! Every session after that I haven't really spent more than 100 on books since I don't buy it unless its needed for my grade.
