Mount Marty CRNA

Published

I am planning on applying to Mount Marty's CRNA program in South Dakota this year. Wondering if anyone is applying, in the program, or has gone through the program.

S.kill2018 do you mind elaborating about your interview questions as far as what type of questions to expect? Also im sure by now you've spoken to many of your class mates were the answers to these questions similar? What is the school looking for particularly in their students who get selected? This is my 4th interview and I didn't get in the last schools so Im beginning to second guess my responses to simple questions like " Why do you want to be a CRNA?" so any input on how you secured a spot would be greatly appreciated!!!! THANKS!

I can't give you too many specific questions as I've forgotten most of them. We also have a new director this year but I believe they will still be mostly personality based. The two that I remember are "What was your biggest career achievement?" and "Give me a specific example of a mistake you made. Did you recognize the mistake at the time, and what did you do? What would you do now?"

I would say they're looking for confident but humble team players with a willingness to learn. They have made it clear from day 1 that now that we are accepted into CRNA school, there is no more competition, and have encouraged us to help each other get through this schooling.

They will absolutely let you dig your own grave in that interview. They may not ask a ton of clinical questions, but they potentially will give you a scenario and if you're not honest about not knowing, they'll lead you down a trail -- one that you started! -- and sink you. Ha!! If you get a question you don't know, say "I'm not as familiar with this scenario as I am with ___, but I'd like to take a guess." If you act like a cocky fool they will absolutely know and will let you take yourself out of the running.

Otherwise, the interview is very conversational and all the professors are pretty friendly...And you will have a lot of opportunity to chat with the other interviewees and the third year students - so definitely use that to your advantage.

In the invitation to interview, they say that they welcome family or your emotional support system to attend the interview day. Do people actually do this? Are you guys planning on bringing someone? My significant other is planning on coming, but I don't want them to be the only one!

My husband will be coming with me.

Definitely bring the person who will support you. It’s a grueling 3 years and many students have families.

My husband will be coming with me. I think it is a rare and wonderful thing to include support systems during this time.

My husband isn’t able to come so I’m going by myself!

Sorry, just to clarify - S.O.'s to the interview?! I read that on the invite too but I just thought that meant bring a travel buddy. Lol

Yes, SO’s to interview. From my understanding they don’t actually go into the interview with you but take part in all of the other aspects of the interview time.

I would say about 75% of the people interviewing brought someone with them. I brought my sister! I don't believe they look down on anyone who doesn't have someone with them though - they don't automatically assume that you have no support system if you don't have anyone at the interview!

My wife would come but she is unable to due to her responsibilities as an elementary principal. I will be traveling alone.

Is anyone spending the night there? I am I have my interview early. It sounds like student are very happy with the program usually.

I hope this will be the one, I like what people have said about their program And seems extremely supportive. With 3 other interviews and waiting on 8 other schools, I’m sure one will say yes Haha
