Hello this is my first time posting a thread and I wanted to get some tips for studying and some motivation. I want to major into nursing after seeing my sister graduate from nursing school and I thought it was really awesome how compassionate and dedicated nurses are.
But you see, for the last couple of years I haven't been doing the best in school because of lack of motivation. I realized that now I am setting myself for failure at this rate and I want to change. I don't have a good GPA at the moment and it is a 2.37 and it is going to drop down possibly to a 2.0 or a 1.9 because I did bad this spring semester. I am planning on retaking the English class in the summer so I can get that out of the way. I need at least a 2.7 GPA if I want to apply to the same school as my sister. I got most of my prerequisite out of the way and I need a few of more class in order to apply such as A&P 1 and 2, Chemistry, Microbiology, English 1102, two Math class, and Psychology.
I hope it isn't too late for me to change up my act, I would really like to be successful and not disappoint everyone anymore while wasting time.
Thank you for taking the time to read this everyone. It would mean a lot if I could get your input

I recommend not taking too many classes at once. just take a couple at a time so you can really focus on them. better to take longer to get them done then take more then you can handle and do badly. The quickest way too increase gpa is to retake classes though you have enough classes left to increase it with good grades.

I would give all the love and attention you have to these pre-nursing specific classes. Unfortunately with your GPA now there's most likely no chance you could get into a BSN program... but you may be able to turn it around and shine with these few nursing-related classes. If you can get 3.5-4.0s in these classes it will bring your overall GPA up and show nursing schools that you can make it in the academically challenging world of nursing.
Keep in mind that although the minimum to apply is 2.7, nursing schools are insanely competitive and you will need higher than that to be in the running for a spot. Study hard and dedicate all the time you can to these difficult classes. Best of luck. If this is what you feel called to do- make it happen!

Please keep in mind that some programs are picky about how many times you retake the core sciences, sometimes they specify they only want one retake for one core science, etc. don't try to cram your hard classes together, spread them out. Daily studying and reading is a must and it may benefit you to have a recorder to relisten to the professor point out specific things they emphasized in class. I believe it helped me through classes and even now. If you can print power points ahead of time do so, you can see what will be lectured in class and get a feel of what they emphasize. Try mixing the difficult course with a less heavy course load together. Also if you can eliminate any potential distractors that would help. Working is hard when you're doing prereqs and even during nursing school too although some few people are doing top notch. You want to spend as much time possible studying every day. If you're single and not looking into dating anyone, that's going to help because sometimes people don't understand the rigor and may not even be understanding or make compromises to hanging out.

You are not getting into nursing school with those GPAs. That is fact. If you "really want" to be a nurse then you have to earn the grades. If that isn't motivation enough then I don't know what to tell you. You actually are not "setting yourself" up for failure as you already are. Those grades are permanent record and will need to be submitted to any nursing school.
